Philadelphia Shooting: Victim Actually Slain Days Before Mass Shooting

10:39 12.07.2023

Philadelphia authorities are investigating a mass shooting that left five people dead, and new details have emerged regarding the timeline of events. It has now been revealed that the suspect, Kimbrady Carriker, allegedly killed one of the victims, Joseph Wamah Jr., almost two days prior to the mass shooting. Carriker, 40, was arraigned on Wednesday morning and is facing charges of murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons possession without a license and carrying firearms in public. Initially, authorities believed that Wamah was killed in a home as part of the mass shooting. However, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced on Sunday that an error prevented the police from discovering Wamah"s body right away, and it has now been determined that he was actually killed by Carriker approximately 44 hours before the shooting. The two locations where Wamah"s body and the mass shooting occurred are about three miles apart. The mass shooting took place on July 3 in a neighborhood southwest of Center City. The victims have been identified as Lashyd Merritt, 20; Dymir Stanton, 29; Ralph Moralis, 59; and Daujan Brown, 15. Two other individuals, a 2-year-old and a 13-year-old, were injured by gunfire, and a 2-year-old boy and a woman were hit by shattered glass. Authorities described the suspect as wearing a ski mask and a ballistic vest and carrying an unmarked, unregistered ghost gun, multiple ammunition magazines, and a semiautomatic rifle similar to an AR-15. Carriker is currently in custody without bail and is represented by a public defender. The investigation revealed that police had received a report of shots fired in the area of Wamah"s residence on July 2, but officers were dispatched to the wrong location, delaying the discovery of Wamah"s body. Philadelphia District Attorney Krasner expressed his sorrow for the delay and emphasized the importance of law enforcement acting with integrity and following the facts. Carriker is scheduled to appear in court again on July 24.
