The Mets had a chance to rally in the sixth inning when Vogelbach and Ronny Mauricio both walked, but they were unable to capitalize. The Twins extended their lead in the seventh inning when Max Kepler hit a bases-loaded triple off Mets reliever Drew Smith. Kepler's hit off the right-field fence cleared the bases and gave the Twins a comfortable cushion.

The Mets managed to score a few more runs late in the game. Pete Alonso hit a solo home run in the eighth inning, his 43rd of the season. D.J. Stewart also hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to bring the Mets within reach. However, the Twins sealed the victory with a solo home run from Willi Castro in the bottom of the eighth.

Despite the loss, David Peterson's performance was a positive for the Mets. After struggling earlier in the season and being demoted to Triple-A, Peterson has shown improvement since his recall. He has pitched to a 3.42 ERA in 16 appearances and the Mets will have to consider him for a back-of-the-rotation job next season.

In a separate game against the Washington Nationals, Mets pitcher Jose Butto had a strong outing, allowing two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings. The Mets lost the game 3-2 after Jacob Young hit a walk-off RBI single in the ninth inning. Butto's performance was a glimpse of his potential, as he had struggled at the Triple-A level earlier in the season.

Overall, the Mets continue to struggle as they fall further behind in the NL East standings. Their inconsistent offense and bullpen issues have been major factors in their recent losing streak. The team will need to regroup and find a way to turn their season around.
