Virginia Democrat defiantly responds to leaked explicit tapes: 'It won't silence me'

In a shocking turn of events, Susanna Gibson, a 40-year-old nurse practitioner and mother of two, who is running as a Democratic candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates, has been accused of performing sex acts with her husband in front of an online audience and encouraging viewers to send them tip money. Gibson allegedly used the adult streaming platform Chaturbate to stream explicit videos with her husband, which were then archived on a website called Recurbate in September 2022. The most recent videos were reportedly archived on September 30, 2022.

According to The Washington Post, Gibson violated Chaturbate's terms and conditions by soliciting tips in order to perform specific sex acts. In the videos, she can be seen telling viewers that she was raising money for a "good cause" and that she would perform specific acts in a "private room" if viewers paid her more "tokens." Gibson's Chaturbate profile allegedly remained active even after she announced her campaign in July 2022, with at least one picture of herself uploaded onto the site the following month.

Gibson's campaign has not yet responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital. However, Gibson told The Washington Post that the sharing of the videos represents "an illegal invasion of my privacy designed to humiliate me and my family." Her lawyer, Daniel P. Watkins, has stated that spreading the videos could be a violation of Virginia's revenge porn law, which is a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Despite the controversy, Gibson is set to face her Republican opponent, David Owen, in the upcoming election on November 7. The race is highly competitive and will play a significant role in determining the balance of power in the Virginia General Assembly. Currently, Republicans control the House of Delegates by a narrow margin of three delegates. Democrats lead the state Senate by a margin of 22 to 18.

Gibson launched her campaign in July 2022 and has since raised $376,895, according to the Virginia Public Access Project. However, she maintains just $77,435 cash on hand after going head-to-head in the June 20 Democratic primary with opponent Bob Shippee. In contrast, Owen has retained $166,179 of his funds after facing no primary challenger.

The revelation of Gibson's explicit videos has sparked a fierce debate, with her attorney arguing that disseminating the videos is a violation of Virginia's revenge porn law. The attorney cited a 2021 Virginia Court of Appeals ruling that found it unlawful to secretly record a consensual sexual encounter, even if the video was not shared with others. Gibson's attorney claims that the dissemination of the videos constitutes revenge porn and is the work of a Republican operative.

Gibson's opponent, David Owen, has responded to the controversy by stating that he is remaining focused on his campaign. Sen. L. Louise Lucas, a top-ranking Virginia Democrat, immediately came to Gibson's defense, announcing that they would make it the biggest fundraising day of her campaign.

As the race for the Virginia House of Delegates in District 57 heats up, all eyes will be on Susanna Gibson and David Owen as they compete for the seat. The outcome of this election will have significant implications for the balance of power in the Virginia General Assembly and will undoubtedly shape the future of the state's legislative agenda.
