Biden claims he was at Ground Zero day after 9/11 - but his own book puts him in DC

04:02 15.09.2023

In a surprising revelation, President Biden claimed to a group of rabbis that he was "raised in the synagogues" of Delaware, contradicting his previous statements about being raised by the state's Puerto Rican community. During a call ahead of Rosh HaShanah, Biden shared that the Beth Shalom congregation in Wilmington, Del., was like a home to him and that he had countless friends there. He even named three rabbis, including a current one at the synagogue. This revelation raises questions about Biden's previous memoirs, which do not mention his connection to the synagogue or Judaism in great detail.

This is not the first time Biden's claims have been called into question. Last year, during a visit to Puerto Rico, he stated that he was raised in the Puerto Rican community, despite the fact that only a small number of Puerto Ricans lived in Delaware when he was starting his career. These contradictory statements have led to skepticism about his true connections to different communities.

Biden's tendency to make factually questionable statements extends beyond his claims about his upbringing. He has previously made contested claims about his involvement in the civil rights movement, including stating that he got involved before becoming a senator and even suggesting that he was arrested during protests. However, at other times, he has downplayed his involvement, stating that he was a suburbanite kid who was not marching or participating in direct action. These contradictory statements raise doubts about the accuracy of his recollections.

Furthermore, Biden has a history of embellishing his experiences to connect with his audiences. For example, he claimed to have visited Pittsburgh's Tree of Life synagogue after the anti-Semitic attack in 2018, despite the synagogue stating that he never visited. Similarly, he claimed that his first job offer came from a local lumber and wood products business, Boise Cascade, despite the company denying this claim. These instances of factual embellishment add to the concerns about Biden's credibility.

Most recently, Biden claimed to have been present at Ground Zero in Manhattan the day after the collapse of the Twin Towers and to have witnessed the fireball caused by the plane that struck the Pentagon on 9/11. However, his own autobiography places him in Washington, D.C., during these events and describes him seeing only a "brown haze of smoke" from Union Station. This discrepancy raises questions about the accuracy of Biden's recollections and adds to the skepticism surrounding his claims.

These frequent misstatements and biographical inaccuracies have led to concerns about Biden's mental acuity, particularly as he prepares for the upcoming election. Polls show that a majority of voters believe he is too old for office, and his history of factual embellishments only exacerbates these concerns. Biden's habit of making false claims and exaggerating his experiences raises questions about his ability to accurately represent his own life and the events he claims to have witnessed.

It is important for journalists and the public to scrutinize these claims and hold political leaders accountable for their statements. As the 2022 election approaches, voters will need to carefully consider the credibility and accuracy of the candidates they choose to support.
