Fields hurt his throwing hand on the Bears' first drive of the second half, dislocating his thumb on a sack by the Vikings. Despite having it popped back into place, Fields was unable to grip the football without pain, forcing him to be sidelined for the remainder of the game. X-rays came back negative, but Fields will undergo an MRI on Monday to ensure the injury is not more severe.

Fields had been on a hot streak in the previous two games, but struggled before his injury, throwing for only 58 yards on 6-of-10 completions and rushing for 46 yards on eight carries. With Fields out, undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent took over at quarterback. However, on just his third snap, Bagent was sacked, resulting in a fumble returned for a touchdown by the Vikings' Jordan Hicks. Bagent later found some rhythm in the fourth quarter and scored his first career rushing touchdown, cutting the Vikings' lead to one score. Unfortunately, he threw an interception on the Bears' next drive, extinguishing any hopes of a comeback.

The loss dropped the Bears to a disappointing 1-5 record for the season, after securing their first win against the Washington Commanders last week. Moving forward, the Bears will be hoping for a quick recovery for Fields as they face the Las Vegas Raiders at home in Week 7. However, the situation is concerning as the third quarterback on their depth chart, Nathan Peterman, is also injured, potentially leaving the Bears in need of another signal-caller if Fields is unable to play.

Fields has had a solid season so far, throwing for 1,201 yards with 11 touchdowns, six interceptions, and a 91.6 quarterback rating through six games. However, his injury adds another hurdle for the struggling Bears to overcome as they try to turn their season around.
