Firearms Instructor Robert Card: Person of Interest in Maine Shooting

03:27 26.10.2023

In a devastating act of violence, at least 22 people were killed and 30 others injured in a mass shooting that took place in Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday night. The shooting occurred at two different locations, Schemengees Bar and Grille and Sparetime Recreation. The Lewiston Police Department quickly identified a person of interest in the case, Robert R. Card of Bowdoin, Maine. They described Card as armed and dangerous and urged the public to contact law enforcement if they had any information regarding his whereabouts. Pictures of Card were released, showing him wearing a brown sweatshirt and holding a high-powered assault-style rifle.

Law enforcement officials revealed that Card is a trained firearms instructor and is believed to be in the Army Reserve stationed out of Saco, Maine. Disturbingly, Card recently reported mental health issues, including hearing voices and making threats to shoot up the National Guard Base in Saco. He had been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks during the summer but was subsequently released. Given his reported mental health issues and the fact that he is considered armed and dangerous, authorities are taking the search for Card very seriously.

The search for Card led police to a "vehicle of interest" in Lisbon, Maine, and they are asking the public for any information that may help locate him. Residents of Lewiston were advised to "shelter in place" and lock their doors as the search for Card continued.

The tragic event prompted a response from the FBI Boston Division, who stated that they are coordinating with local and state law enforcement to assist in any way possible. They also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or individuals to law enforcement immediately.

The city of Lewiston is in a state of shock and grief following the devastating shooting. Local schools have canceled classes for the day, and town offices in neighboring Lisbon will also be closed. The Central Maine Medical Center is responding to the "mass casualty" event but has not released specific details about the number of victims.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are working tirelessly to apprehend Robert Card and bring him to justice for the senseless violence that has rocked the community of Lewiston.
