Beloved "Night Court" Star Richard Moll Passes Away at 80

00:13 29.10.2023

The entertainment industry has lost a beloved figure as Richard Moll, the towering actor known for his role as the lovable bailiff on the hit sitcom "Night Court," passed away at the age of 80. Moll's death was confirmed by his family spokesman, Jeff Sanderson, who did not provide a cause of death. The actor died at his residence in Big Bear Lake, California.

Richard Moll had a career that spanned over four decades and saw him take on a variety of roles in both television and film. However, it was his portrayal of the endearing Aristotle Nostradamus Shannon, affectionately known as Bull, on Night Court that truly endeared him to audiences. The show, which ran from 1984 to 1992, was set in a fictional municipal night court in Manhattan and followed the hilarious antics of Judge Harry Stone, played by the late Harry Anderson, and the charismatic prosecutor Dan Fielding, portrayed by John Larroquette.

Bull Shannon's character brought a sense of lighthearted innocence to the series with his dimwitted persona and childlike charm. His catchphrase, "Ohh-kay," became synonymous with the character and endeared him to viewers. Bull's endearing friendship with Roz Russell, played by Marsha Warfield, added depth to his character and made him a fan favorite.

Following the end of "Night Court," Richard Moll continued to contribute his unique talents to various projects. He lent his distinct gravelly voice to video games and comic book adaptations, such as voicing Harvey Dent in "Batman: The Animated Series." He also appeared in several horror films, including Ghost Shark (2013) and Slay Belles (2018). Moll's versatility as an actor was further demonstrated through his role as Scorpion in the 1990s' "Spider-Man: The Animated Series." He made memorable appearances in movies like 1994's The Flintstones and the comedy "Jingle All the Way," starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Despite the enduring popularity of "Night Court," which recently received a reboot on NBC, Richard Moll did not join the cast for the new series. The original show concluded with Bull Shannon being abducted by aliens who needed someone of his towering height to reach high shelves. Moll is survived by his children, Chloe and Mason Moll, his ex-wife Susan Moll, and his stepchildren Cassandra Card and Morgan Ostling.

Richard Moll's passing marks the end of an era for fans of Night Court and the entertainment industry as a whole. His portrayal of the affable Bull Shannon will forever be remembered, and his contributions to television and film will continue to entertain audiences for generations to come.
