Colorado parents claim their 11-year-old daughter was forced to sleep in bed with transgender student on school trip

Joe and Serena Wailes, the parents of an 11-year-old girl, are speaking out about an incident in which their daughter was reportedly assigned to share a bed with a transgender student on an overnight school trip. The couple, represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), discussed their concerns and actions against Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) in Colorado during an interview with "The Ingraham Angle" on Tuesday. According to a press release from the ADF, the Wailes' daughter, identified as "D.W.", went on a school-sponsored trip to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. In multiple meetings leading up to the trip, the parents were assured that male and female students would be assigned to different hotel rooms and floors. However, their daughter discovered that she was assigned to share a bed with a transgender student, referred to as "K.E.M.", who is a biological male identifying as a female. Feeling uncomfortable with the arrangement, she secretly called her parents and they met her in the hotel lobby. Serena contacted a chaperone, who then contacted a trip leader. The chaperones suggested that their daughter switch beds instead of rooms, and although she was still uncomfortable, she agreed to try it for one night. However, the ADF claims that the chaperones instructed the girl to lie about the reason for the switch, stating that she needed to be closer to the air conditioner. When another roommate suggested that K.E.M. was uncomfortable speaking up about the issue, the girl contacted Serena again, who then raised the issue with school chaperones. The ADF alleges that the chaperones again told the girl to lie about the reason for the room rearrangement. The Wailes' demand a clarification from JCPS regarding their policy and room assignments, as well as the right for parents to make informed decisions about their children. JCPS stated that they are still gathering facts about the incident and will provide a detailed response by December 18. The father, Joe Wailes, expressed his initial disbelief about the frequency of transgender policies being implemented in schools, but now realizes the significance of the issue after it affected his family. The ADF asserts that parents have the right to direct the upbringing and education of their children and that they should be informed about policies that may affect their child's privacy. The incident has sparked a debate about parental rights and student privacy within the school district.
