Minnesota professor calls to 'decolonize' and 'dismantle' the US: 'Go as hard as possible'

16:02 23.12.2023

In a recent pro-Palestinian event organized by the Native American advocacy group, the Red Nation, University of Minnesota liberal arts professor Melanie Yazzie made controversial remarks calling for the dismantling and decolonization of America. Yazzie, who took the stage alongside several other speakers, expressed her desire for people to recognize that "we're all indigenous people who come from nations who are under occupation by the United States government." She further claimed that the US bankrolls the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and emphasized that the two are interconnected.

Yazzie argued that it is the responsibility of those within the United States to actively work towards decolonization, which she believes will have reverberations across the world. She expressed her determination to see the US removed from various places, including Palestine and Turtle Island, a term used by some Native American tribes to refer to North America. Yazzie stated that the ultimate goal is to dismantle the settler project that is the United States, which she believes is necessary for the freedom and future of all life on the planet.

During her speech, Yazzie seemed to imply that the world had changed dramatically after the October 7 attacks by Hamas on innocent Israeli civilians. She claimed that Palestine offers an alternative path for native nations and described the struggle as righteous and powerful. Yazzie emphasized the need for people to lean into scaring colonizers and making them feel uncomfortable, asserting that they are scared.

Furthermore, Yazzie criticized liberalism as being founded upon imperialism and colonialism. She dismissed it as bulls- and trash that only knows the language of violence or uses niceties like Minnesota Nice to cover it up. Yazzie called for resistance as the only effective means to combat colonialism and imperialism, highlighting historical instances where indigenous people have successfully resisted violence in various places.

Addressing their "Palestinian relatives," Yazzie referred to the US as a violent settler project and claimed to possess the moral authority, as the original people of America, to push back against it. Yazzie expressed the desire to lead the charge in dismantling the United States and called on others to join in this endeavor. She also asserted that decolonization is the only thing that will save humanity and the planet, urging people to support it unconditionally.

Despite these controversial remarks, Professor Yazzie, the University of Minnesota, and the Red Nation have not responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
