Chiefs' Rashee Rice involved in high-speed Dallas crash, attorney says

21:56 04.04.2024

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was identified as the driver of a Lamborghini involved in a high-speed crash on a Dallas highway over the weekend, according to his attorney, state Sen. Royce West. The crash, which also involved a Corvette and four other vehicles, left four people with minor injuries. Rice, who posted an apology on Instagram, admitted to being involved in the crash in a text to the company that owned the Lamborghini he was leasing. The Corvette involved in the crash also belonged to Rice, although the driver has not been identified. Rice, a second-round draft pick by the Chiefs in 2023, has been cooperating with authorities and taking responsibility for his actions.

The crash occurred on North Central Expressway in Dallas when the Lamborghini and Corvette, driven by Rice and a friend, were speeding in the far left lane and lost control. The Lamborghini veered onto the shoulder and hit the median wall, causing a chain reaction collision. Two people were treated at the scene and two others were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The Lamborghini involved in the crash was leased from The Classic Lifestyle, a Dallas-based exotic car rental company, and Rice was the only authorized driver of the vehicle.

The Chiefs and the NFL are also investigating the incident, with team president Mark Donovan stating that they are waiting for all the facts to come to light before taking any further action. Rice, who had a breakout rookie season with the Chiefs, expressed his thoughts and cooperation with local authorities through his attorney. The investigation is ongoing, with witnesses, victims, and others involved being interviewed by the police to determine the exact circumstances of the crash. Despite the severity of the incident, no serious injuries were reported, for which authorities and the Chiefs are grateful.
