Fifth suspect charged in killings of 2 Kansas moms

08:09 25.04.2024

A fifth member of an anti-government group has been charged in connection with the killing and kidnapping of two Kansas women in rural Oklahoma. Paul Jeremiah Grice, 31, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit murder. Grice admitted to participating in the planning, killing, and burial of Veronica Butler, 27, and Jilian Kelley, 39. The victims disappeared on March 30 while driving to pick up Butler's children for a birthday party. The suspects, including Tifany Adams, 54, her boyfriend Tad Cullum, 43, and married couple Cole, 50, and Cora Twombly, 44, were part of an anti-government group called "God's Misfits." The group had a religious affiliation and regularly met at the Twomblys' home. The murders were allegedly motivated by a bitter custody battle between Adams and Butler, who was only allowed supervised visits with her children. Cell phone data led authorities to a pasture property where the victims' bodies were found in a hole that had been dug and filled back in. The state bureau of investigation said its investigation is ongoing, and all suspects have been denied bond. Family members of the victims expressed hope for justice to be served as they confronted the alleged killers in court.
