Sam Brown, Republican Army Vet, Launches Senate Bid in Nevada

14:34 12.07.2023

Republican U.S. Army combat veteran Sam Brown announced on Monday his candidacy for the Republican nomination to challenge Nevada Democratic U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen in the 2024 election. Brown, who placed second in Nevada"s Republican Senate primary in 2022, is part of a Republican strategy of recruiting military veterans to run for congressional offices. Brown"s military background, including being severely injured in Afghanistan, is expected to be a key focus of his campaign. Senator Steve Daines, chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, welcomed Brown"s entrance into the race, praising his life of service and sacrifice. Brown, who runs a business providing medical support to veterans, has strong fundraising potential and has been considered a strong challenger to Rosen. However, Brown will face competition in the Republican primary from former Nevada state Representative Jim Marchant, known for his election conspiracy theories, and Jeffrey Ross Gunter, a former U.S. ambassador to Iceland under former President Donald Trump. Republicans hope that Brown"s military record will help him win over voters and ultimately flip the Senate seat. Democrats, on the other hand, anticipate a messy Republican primary that could force the nominee to the right in a purple state. Senator Rosen"s seat is one of several that Republicans are targeting in their efforts to dismantle the Democrats" narrow majority in the Senate. Brown"s campaign launch event is scheduled for July 10, where he plans to make a special announcement. He aims to present himself as a candidate who will stand up for everyday Nevadans and lead with their best interests in mind.
