New York does not have much behind Judge, Torres, and Stanton. The other six spots in the lineup have not made consistent hard contact and, in turn, have failed to provide much run support for a thin starting rotation.

Getting into this matchup, Yusei Kikuchi will benefit from facing this version of the Yankees as he's allowed hard contact, but only when hitters have put the ball in play. Kikuchi is a strike thrower who has proven he can finish hitters off when getting ahead, and he has the potential to rack up strikeouts against this green Yankees lineup.

New York is 12th in team strikeout rate, and their inability to make Kikuchi work will allow him to work deep into this game.

Backing Kikuchi is the strongest angle in this matchup. While he can get into trouble, Kikuchi has the strikeouts to work out of it and give the Jays the length they need more often than not.

Despite missing their top two non-QB players in Week 1, Kansas City came close to defeating Detroit if not for some unusual factors and dropped passes that went against them. The Chiefs' defense will welcome back their all-pro pass rusher, and Travis Kelce will rejoin the lineup on offense.

Therefore, I'm inclined to support the Chiefs in this matchup, even though it's in Jacksonville. In the divisional round of the playoffs, the Chiefs closed as a 9.5-point favorite at home in this same matchup. Not much has significantly changed since then, except for the location, so why are the Chiefs only favored by three points now?

Laying more than three points with the Chiefs can be risky because they tend to win close games, are prone to getting backdoored, and don't run up the score when leading in the fourth quarter. If Mahomes is favored by three or fewer points and essentially just needs to secure the victory, it becomes a much safer bet. The line moved from -2.5 to -3 after the Jones news, and it might not have moved far enough.

I wouldn't feel comfortable laying 3.5 points here. While Trevor Lawrence showed flashes of brilliance against the Colts, he also had too many mistakes and subpar plays. His highs indicate a top-five QB level, but his consistency is not yet there. Moreover, there were evident weaknesses in the Jaguars' defense on Sunday that a more skilled running back and quarterback would have exploited.

With the amount of talent they have churned out, the Ohio State Buckeyes have become an NFL academy over the last few years. While they are ranked just sixth in the AP Poll, this team is still loaded with impact players that you will see on Sundays in the coming years.

However, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers boast plenty of talent in their own right, as quarterback Austin Reed leads one of the most explosive offenses in the country.

This matchup is far more intriguing than the 29-point spread suggests. The old saying in fighting is "styles make matchups." Well, the contrasting styles these two offenses will likely display should make this an interesting matchup from a betting perspective.

As I alluded to in the open, the Hilltoppers' offense is explosive. In fact, they come into this matchup ranked 23rd in Offensive Explosiveness on the season, and it's all because of their vertical passing attack.

Western Kentucky has thrown the ball at the fifth-highest rate thus far and its aerial attack has culminated in success, as it ranks third in Offensive Finishing Drives.

However, this will be the best secondary they'll face all season long. The Buckeyes have shut down the passing game through their first two games, as they rank fourth in completion percentage allowed and opponent yards per pass allowed.

Though going back to Western Kentucky, it will also be one of the best passing attacks the Buckeyes will contend with, too.

This matchup will be a big contrast in styles. The Hilltoppers will be looking to air it out, while the Buckeyes will utilize the big boys up front to continuously move the ball on the ground.

The contrast opens the window for WKU to respond efficiently, even after a long, methodical drive from Ohio State. The Buckeyes will dictate the pace and it will likely be slower, as the rushing attack milks much of the clock and keeps Reed off the field.

However, it may limit the Buckeyes' scoring opportunities and allow for this matchup to be closer than expected, as WKU won't stop throwing regardless of the game script.

BYU vs. Arkansas pick

The BYU Cougars hit the road to play the Arkansas Razorbacks in a fun non-conference battle.

However, one concern for Slovis and BYU was the team's offensive showing in their 14-0 win over Sam Houston State in Week 1. BYU only led 7-0 for the first three quarters of that game and Slovis struggled throughout by completing 20-of-33 passes for 145 yards, and any sort of repeat of that performance would not be a winning formula in Fayetteville.

Giants vs. 49ers pick

The New York Giants continue their West Coast road trip with a matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football.

BetMGM is favoring the 49ers by 10.5 points, and while I expect San Francisco to win, that feels a bit too high. The bet I like more is over 43.5 total points.

It is hard to imagine the Giants defense shutting down the 49ers. San Francisco has scored 30 points in each of its first two games this season and everyone knows how great its skill position players are. Meanwhile, New York surrendered 28 points to the lowly Cardinals on Sunday and the 49ers are obviously a much tougher challenge.

The Giants also seemed to figure some things out offensively in the second half vs. Arizona. Daniel Jones was outstanding and his running ability adds another dimension to New York's offense and can bail out the team in tough situations. Saquon Barkley won't be playing, but I think the Giants offense can do enough to at least push this one over.

San Francisco absolutely dominated the division last season, going 7-0 ATS vs. the NFC West. That being said, this season may be a bit different the Rams.

Los Angeles' Sean McVay is 17-4 SU in September and has been over .500 in all six seasons. Additionally, his team plays well against the NFC West in the early part of the year.

Brock Purdy has performed very well thus far and if his records SU and ATS are to be believed, he may be in for another successful day. However, Aaron Donald will likely be the biggest defensive impediment. If he can disrupt Purdy early, it could be long day.

That being said, the Niners are mostly healthy on the line and have played very well when Christian McCaffrey starts (13-1 SU, 11-3 ATS going back to last season).

The Rams' Puka Nacua will likely miss this game which could be a significant issue for Matt Stafford. Stafford likes his guys, he tends to target one receiver a lot and go them repeatedly in crunch situations. In Week 1, he targeted the rookie 15 times in total with Nacua hauling in 10 catches for 119 yards. Without that weapon, the Niners may be able to secure a few sacks.

Another rough factor for LA, McVay is 1-8 SU against Kyle Shanahan over the past four seasons.

Overall, San Francisco is a 7.5 favorite with the total at 44.5 and a half. The Rams are at home and that spread is a bit too generous. That being said, the Niners are likely to take this one against the in-state rivals, but it will be closer than the books expect.

Two teams searching for their first win of the season meet in the Valley of the Sun when the Arizona Cardinals host the New York Giants this afternoon.

The Giants are favored by 4.5 points and I like that spot for them. Arizona still profiles as one of the worst teams in the NFL and New York should be able to take advantage.

Let's face it, the Giants are not as bad as they looked in their 40-0 loss to the Cowboys last Sunday. New York was down from the jump thanks to two return touchdowns from Dallas, and it put them in a hole that they couldn't dig out from. Brian Daboll is still a really good head coach and there's enough talent on the roster to suggest this team will bounce back.

Arizona performed far better than many expected in Week 1, but it still didn't have an offensive touchdown. The Cardinals needed a defensive TD and a 54-yard field goal to keep it close with Washington, so there is no reason to think they will have good offensive outing in this game. Their starting quarterback is Joshua Dobbs after all and he showed why he is a career backup in Week 1.
