Texas Woman Receives 75-Year Sentence for 'Sadistic Torture'

08:43 04.10.2023

In a shocking case of sadistic torture, 37-year-old Alicia Calderon of Wylie, Texas, has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis described Calderon's actions as "unthinkable torture" and expressed hope that the jury's decision would aid the victim in her healing process.

The disturbing series of events began in 2019 when the victim, a 24-year-old woman, moved into Calderon's family trailer in Wylie. The arrangement, which initially seemed beneficial for both parties, quickly turned into a nightmare for the victim. Calderon gained control over her by confiscating her phone, restricting her food, and limiting her movements in and out of the trailer.

As the situation deteriorated, Calderon escalated her abuse. She locked the victim in a room with a severely declining elderly woman, forcing the victim to care for her despite her own deteriorating physical condition. The victim's weight plummeted as she was deprived of proper sustenance, eventually losing over half of her body weight.

Calderon's cruelty reached horrifying heights in July 2021 when she caught the victim sneaking food. As punishment, she locked the young woman in a dog crate and poured boiling water over her, causing severe burns to her legs. Later that year, during an argument, Calderon poured a pot of boiling water over the victim, inflicting severe burns on her arms, chest, and back. Shockingly, Calderon denied the victim access to medical treatment for her injuries.

The victim endured these unimaginable horrors for two years without any means of communication with the outside world. However, on February 1, 2022, she managed to borrow a phone from a member of the household and sent a desperate message to her stepfather via Facebook, indicating that she was locked in a room and in urgent need of help. This was the first contact she had made with her parents in years.

Upon receiving the distressing message, the victim's stepfather immediately called 911 and rushed to the trailer. Responding deputies from the Collin County Sheriff's Office encountered a shocking scene. Stacked stones blocked the door, obstructing the victim's escape. After removing the stones, they found the victim in an emaciated state, weighing a mere 68 pounds. Her head was shaved, and her body was covered in second and third-degree burns.

The elderly woman in the trailer was in such a dire condition that authorities initially believed she may have passed away. Collin County Sheriff's Office Investigator Richard Cass led the subsequent investigation into the case. During the trial, the victim's burn doctor provided extensive testimony regarding the extent of her injuries. The victim underwent multiple surgeries, including skin grafts, to treat her severe burns. She spent six weeks in the hospital, battling not only her physical injuries but also malnourishment.

In court, the victim bravely recounted the trauma she continues to endure and the lasting nerve damage caused by Calderon's sadistic actions. During the punishment phase, prosecutors presented evidence that Calderon had spent a staggering $78,000 of the elderly woman's recently received inheritance within a mere three months. Additionally, Calderon had been cashing the elderly woman's social security checks for several years. The money was used on frivolous items such as tattoo shops, a party rental place, and new tire rims.

Judge George Flint presided over the case, ultimately delivering the sentence of 75 years in prison for Calderon. The severity of the punishment reflects the heinous nature of Calderon's crimes and the immense physical and emotional suffering inflicted upon the victim. The hope now is that the victim can begin the long process of healing and rebuilding her life.
