Convicted: Woman's Murderous Plot to Rob Slain College Student

22:08 04.10.2023

In a shocking turn of events, Yasmine Marie Hider, a woman who lured two college students into a deadly robbery in Alabama, has pleaded guilty to murder. The incident, which took place in the Talladega National Forest in August 2022, resulted in the death of 22-year-old Adam Simjee. Hider, 21, had posed as a stranded motorist in need of a jump-start and tricked Simjee and his girlfriend into helping her.

According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Hider pulled out a gun once the couple stopped to assist her and ordered them into the woods. In a desperate act of self-defense, Simjee drew his own handgun and fired at Hider. Unfortunately, Hider retaliated and fatally shot Simjee, despite sustaining four gunshot wounds herself.

Federal prosecutors in Alabama have charged Hider with murder, kidnapping, and robbery. If convicted, she could face life imprisonment. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Alabama revealed that Hider had been living in the woods, as stated in the plea agreement.

During the robbery, Hider forced the couple to empty their pockets and hand over their banking and credit card information, as well as their personal identification numbers. Simjee took advantage of a momentary distraction, pulling out his weapon and demanding that Hider drop hers. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Hider and Simjee shot at each other simultaneously, resulting in the tragic loss of Simjee's life. Thankfully, his girlfriend was unharmed.

Court documents suggest that Simjee and his girlfriend, both students at the University of Central Florida, were on a hiking trip and driving through the Talladega National Forest, specifically searching for waterfalls in Cheaha State Park when they encountered Hider.

Meanwhile, Krystal Diane Pinkins, one of the two women charged in Simjee's killing, has been found guilty of murder and other federal charges. U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona announced Pinkins' conviction, stating that she had been charged with murder, robbery, and unlawful use of a firearm during a crime of violence.

The incident unfolded when Yasmine Marie Adel Hider, 21, flagged down Simjee and his girlfriend on a National Forest Service road in the Talladega National Forest. Hider, pretending to be stranded, requested assistance in jumpstarting Pinkins' vehicle. However, this was merely a ruse, as Hider and Pinkins went on to rob the couple.

Simjee, carrying a firearm, managed to shoot Pinkins multiple times before Hider retaliated and killed Simjee. Authorities have discovered that Pinkins provided the gun used in the fatal shooting and also aided in planning the robbery. She reportedly watched the events unfold from nearby woods before fleeing.

Pinkins, who was eventually apprehended at a secluded campsite six hours after the shooting, was arrested as her 5-year-old son emerged from the woods carrying a loaded shotgun. Fortunately, the child did not discharge the weapon and was taken into custody by child welfare workers.

During Pinkins' trial, Hider testified against her. Hider is expected to enter a guilty plea before the same judge who oversaw Pinkins' case on October 4, 2023. The maximum sentence for robbery is 15 years in prison, while the other two charges carry a potential life sentence. Pinkins will be sentenced at a later date.

The shocking and tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise from seemingly innocent encounters. Simjee's untimely death has left his loved ones and the community devastated, while Hider and Pinkins now face the consequences of their actions in a court of law.
