Menendez controversy: Officer at scene of future wife's deadly car crash identified

04:57 07.10.2023

In a shocking revelation, it has been uncovered that a retired top policeman, Michael Mordaga, was present at the scene of a fatal car crash involving Nadine Arslanian, the wife-to-be of Senator Bob Menendez. Mordaga, who had previously served as the director of Hackensack police and chief of detectives in the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, arrived at the crash site within minutes of the incident occurring in December 2018.

According to sources, Mordaga assisted Arslanian in leaving the scene without undergoing a sobriety test or surrendering her phone. Dashcam footage and 911 recordings indicate that Arslanian refused to have her cellphone searched and did not call 911 until officers were already present. Furthermore, it is alleged that she provided the wrong location for the crash.

The crash, which resulted in the death of Richard Koop, eventually led to bribery and corruption charges against Arslanian and Menendez. Both individuals deny the allegations. Menendez, a New Jersey senator, has faced federal corruption charges in the past, including accusations of accepting gifts from a Florida eye surgeon.

In a surprising turn of events, it was revealed that Arslanian was dating both Menendez and Douglas Anton, an attorney who went on to represent R. Kelly in his sex-trafficking trial. Additionally, it was discovered that Arslanian had reached out to Wael Hana, an Egyptian American businessman indicted in the bribery scheme, for assistance following the loss of her car in the crash. Hana later provided her with a 2019 Mercedes-Benz convertible.

Details of Arslanian's actions after the crash were unveiled in recently released dashcam footage and records from the Bogota Police Department. The footage shows Arslanian standing in the road, dressed in a fur coat and short dress, as the patrolman questioned her. She initially agreed to allow the police to search her phone but later requested an attorney. Arslanian's behavior raised questions, as she did not inquire about the victim's condition but instead asked for something that had apparently been placed in the ambulance.

Mordaga's involvement in the incident also came to light through the dashcam footage. He can be heard identifying himself as retired from Hackensack and claiming that Arslanian was a friend of his buddy's wife. Mordaga sought information about the investigation and was informed that Arslanian could be released once she had retrieved her belongings from her totaled car.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, Arslanian left the scene without receiving a summons, leaving Sergio Uribe, the owner of the parked car she collided with, baffled. Uribe expressed his disbelief that Arslanian was allowed to leave without being arrested. Arslanian's attorney declined to comment on the matter.

Mordaga, when contacted by The Post, refused to provide any comments and directed all inquiries to the Bogota Police Department, which did not respond immediately. Mordaga has faced previous allegations, including accusations that he played a role in the execution of Frank Lagano, a reputed member of the Lucchese crime family. Although his family filed a federal lawsuit against Mordaga and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, they were unsuccessful, and the case is currently under appeal. Mordaga has also been accused of failing to intervene in a domestic violence incident involving two married police officers during his tenure as a police official.

As the details of this shocking incident continue to unfold, the public awaits further investigation and potential consequences for those involved.
