Marjorie Taylor Greene to bring resolution to censure Rashida Tlaib, accusing her of 'antisemitic activity'

Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has introduced a resolution to censure Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib, accusing her of engaging in "antisemitic activity" and showing sympathy towards terrorist organizations. Greene dropped her resolution to force a House vote to censure Tlaib on Thursday, shortly after the House elected its new speaker, Mike Johnson.

Greene took to social media to announce the introduction of her resolution, stating that Tlaib had led a "pro-Hamas insurrection" into the Capitol complex, displayed anti-Semitic beliefs, and expressed hatred for Israel. She also read her resolution on the House floor while introducing the legislation.

In response, Tlaib published a press release on Thursday denouncing Greene's resolution as unhinged and "deeply Islamophobic." Tlaib expressed her solidarity with Jewish peace advocates calling for a ceasefire and an end to the violence, emphasizing her commitment to standing up against bullying, dehumanization, and silencing. She vowed to continue advocating for humanitarian aid, the release of hostages and detainees, and the safe return of all Americans.

Greene, in an interview with Fox News Digital, criticized the Democratic Party for failing to hold Tlaib accountable, stating that her actions were not a one-time occurrence but rather a reflection of who she is. Greene accused Tlaib of leading a pro-Palestinian protest on Capitol Hill, during which activists occupied a significant portion of the Cannon House Office Building. She referenced Tlaib's comments blaming Israel for a hospital bombing in Gaza, despite intelligence agencies suggesting it was a misfired Hamas rocket.

In her resolution, Greene also highlighted Tlaib's endorsement of a slogan used by Hamas and the Palestine Liberation Organization, as well as her previous remarks labeling Israel as an "apartheid government."

Greene anticipates full support from Republicans in her push to censure Tlaib, and she believes it would be surprising if Democrats did not vote in favor as well. She also called for multiple House panels, including the House Ethics Committee and the House Administration Committee, along with federal agencies such as the Department of Justice, FBI, and possibly the CIA, to investigate Tlaib's involvement in the cease-fire protest.

Tlaib's office has yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter.
