Nacho average bear: Florida mammal swipes $45 Taco Bell order from porch

15:24 08.11.2023

In a bizarre and comical incident, a hungry black bear with a penchant for fast food recently managed to steal a mouthwatering $45 Taco Bell order from the front porch of a home in Longwood, a suburb of Orlando. The audacious theft occurred just moments after the Uber Eats driver had dropped off the tantalizing meal, leaving the unsuspecting homeowner in a state of shock.

Captured on the home's Ring camera, the video footage showcases the daring criminal sauntering up to the front door with a mischievous glint in its eyes. Without hesitation, the bear snatches the bag full of delectable treats into its formidable jaws. But the bear's insatiable hunger doesn't end there. A little while later, it boldly returns to pilfer the accompanying drinks, exhibiting an almost human-like craving for the refreshing beverages.

Nicole Castro, the homeowner, recounted the astonishing incident to Orlando's WOFL-TV, saying, "He came, and he grabbed the food - then he came again for the soda." The family, completely unaware of the thieving bear's culinary escapades, opened the front door around 10 minutes later, only to discover the shocking evidence left behind. As the Ring video recorded their reaction, their cries echoed in disbelief, exclaiming, "The bear took the food!"

Fortunately for the disappointed family, Uber Eats swiftly reimbursed them for their stolen meal, providing some consolation for the bizarre episode. However, this is not an isolated incident of bear-induced gastronomic crimes. In fact, it seems that these furry thieves have developed a taste for human cuisine.

Over the past two months, reports of similar food heists by bears have emerged from different parts of the country. In October, a black bear in Minnesota broke into a woman's kitchen and made off with frozen lasagna. Meanwhile, a backyard barbecue in Tennessee was ambushed by another brazen bear, who managed to swipe multiple burgers, leaving the bewildered homeowners in awe.

September also witnessed several encounters between bears and human food. A bear was caught on camera infiltrating a cabin in Idaho Springs, meticulously pillaging all the available sustenance. In Florida, a three-legged bear demonstrated its resourcefulness by slyly making off with White Claw hard seltzers from an unsuspecting family's outdoor fridge. And in a truly memorable incident, two bears stationed at an Alaska military base boldly raided a Krispy Kreme doughnut van, perhaps seeking a sweet treat to satisfy their cravings.

While these incidents may provide amusement, it is essential to remember the serious implications of such encounters. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the most common human-bear interactions occur due to unsecured garbage and readily accessible human food. The agency strongly advises against feeding or leaving food for bears, emphasizing the need to eliminate any potential attractants that may lead to these unfortunate encounters.

In this particular case, it is clear that the bear's affinity for fast food led it to commit this audacious crime. However, it seems that this Taco Bell-stealing bear is not alone in its quest for unconventional meals. These stories serve as a reminder that humans and wildlife must coexist responsibly, ensuring that the allure of human food does not compromise the safety and natural behaviors of these magnificent creatures.
