Tallulah's heartwarming update on Bruce Willis's battle with dementia

10:21 09.11.2023

Bruce Willis's daughter, Tallulah Willis, recently opened up about her father's battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) during an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show. The Hollywood actor, 68, was diagnosed with FTD a year after his family revealed he was suffering from aphasia, a condition that affects speech and language.

Tallulah described her father's dementia as "really aggressive" and emphasized the importance of her family's openness about the condition. "What's going on with my dad - he has a really aggressive cognitive disease, a form of dementia that's very rare," she said. The family decided to be candid about the situation because "it's who we are as a family" and because there is a lack of awareness and information about FTD.

She admitted that prior to her father's diagnosis, she had no idea about FTD. To spend time with her father, Tallulah revealed that they would listen to music together, which she found to be a special and healing experience. Additionally, she found solace in exploring her father's belongings, describing it as becoming an archaeologist of his world.

When asked about her father's health, Tallulah reassured that he is "the same," and that seeing his love for her is very special. She also expressed her reluctance to let go of her hopes for her father's improvement, stating, "I keep flipping between the present and the past when I talk about Bruce: he is, he was, he is, he was. That's because I have hopes for my father that I'm so reluctant to let go of."

Emma Heming, Bruce Willis's wife, has also been providing updates on his condition. During an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Tallulah shared that her father's health remains stable, which she has come to learn is the best thing she can ask for. She expressed her gratitude for the love and support they have received from the public.

Tallulah also explained why the family chose to be open about Willis's condition. She stated that it is not only a reflection of their family values but also a way to spread awareness and potentially help others facing similar challenges. She acknowledged that caring for someone with FTD was something they had no prior knowledge of, and if their experiences could be turned into something beautiful to help others, it would be incredibly meaningful.

Earlier this year, Tallulah's sister, Scout, shared her feelings about their father's diagnosis on Instagram, describing it as "cruel." She expressed gratitude for the love and support they have received from people during this difficult time.

Bruce Willis, who shares Tallulah, Scout, and Rumer with ex-wife Demi Moore, was first diagnosed with aphasia in 2022. In February, Moore revealed that his condition had progressed to FTD. She expressed gratitude for the support they have received and shared that they finally had a clear diagnosis, which brought both pain and relief.

FTD is a condition that results from damage to neurons in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. It can cause various symptoms, including unusual behaviors, emotional problems, communication difficulties, and trouble with work or walking.

Willis retired from acting after his aphasia diagnosis in 2022. The family continues to navigate his battle with FTD, with Tallulah emphasizing the importance of spreading awareness and supporting others facing similar challenges.
