Jill Biden's Whimsical White House Wonderland: Step into a Magical Holiday Experience

17:32 27.11.2023

The White House is set to dazzle visitors this holiday season with its enchanting and whimsical decorations. First Lady Jill Biden has chosen "Magic, Wonder, and Joy" as the theme, aiming to capture the pure delight and imagination of childhood. The holiday decor features 98 Christmas trees, adorned with over 34,000 ornaments and illuminated by more than 142,000 twinkling lights.

Walking through the halls of the White House, visitors will be greeted by a stunning display of oversized candy and sweets, creating a festive and magical atmosphere. Suspended above the grand foyer is Santa's sleigh, along with his eight reindeer, evoking a sense of wonder in all who pass through. The papier-mache reindeer, according to Jill Biden, are "so cool" and appear as if they have leaped off the pages of a storybook.

Several rooms in the White House pay homage to the 200th anniversary of the publication of the poem and book commonly known as "Twas the Night Before Christmas." The library, for instance, showcases samples of editions of the book from the past 200 years, displayed in protective cases. Meanwhile, the traditional gingerbread White House features a large sugar cookie replica of the book, opened to a page that reads "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night." Santa's sleigh and reindeer can be seen flying above the cookie White House.

The holiday decorations extend throughout the White House, with each room showcasing its unique theme. The State Dining Room has been transformed into Santa's workshop, complete with elves' workbenches and tools. The Green Room features glowing candles and stained glass, symbolizing faith, while the Red Room invites visitors to partake in holiday craft-making. The China Room has been turned into a sweet shop, filled with the scents and flavors of the season.

In addition to the festive decorations, the White House is also celebrating the contributions of military families. National Guard families, as part of the Joining Forces initiative, were among the first to see the decorations. The children of these families were treated to a performance by the cast of the North American tour of the Disney musical "Frozen."

The official White House Christmas tree, an 18.5-foot-tall Fraser fir, takes center stage in the Blue Room. The tree showcases cheerful scenes, landscapes, and neighborhoods from across the country. A toy train runs around its base, adding to the joyful ambiance.

Overall, the White House has spared no effort in creating a truly magical and awe-inspiring holiday experience for visitors. With 300 volunteer decorators and designers working tirelessly to bring the decor to life, the White House has become a haven of "magic, wonder, and joy" this holiday season.
