Manhunt Underway in Texas for Escaped Convicted Sex Offender

Authorities in Texas have launched a manhunt for a convicted sex offender who escaped from prison on Sunday. Robert Yancy, Jr., 39, was serving a life sentence without parole for the continuous sexual abuse of a child at the Clemens Unit in Brazoria, Texas, when he managed to escape, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Yancy's escape occurred at approximately 3:38 p.m. on Sunday, and he was last seen in a 2021 white Nissan Versa with the license plate DNR9145. The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office, in a Facebook post, informed the public that Yancy is no longer believed to be in Brazoria. The license plate of the Nissan was entered into a statewide plate reader system, which subsequently alerted authorities that the vehicle had been spotted at approximately 6:09 p.m. in Victoria County, about 110 miles west of Brazoria.

The Victoria Police Department responded promptly to the sighting and conducted a traffic stop at approximately 8:25 p.m. The vehicle was occupied solely by a female driver, who was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant related to Yancy's escape. The police did not disclose any further details regarding the connection between Yancy and the female driver.

Yancy was described as last seen wearing a black beanie and a black sweater. Authorities are urging the public not to approach him and to immediately contact law enforcement if they see him or have any information regarding his whereabouts.

According to jail records, Yancy was convicted in 2022 for continuous sexual abuse of a child in Victoria County, resulting in a life sentence without parole. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice took to the social media platform X to announce the escape, raising awareness and seeking assistance from the public in locating Yancy.
