NBA G League player, girlfriend accused of 'executing murder plan' in Nevada, police say

Former NBA G League player, Chance Comanche, and his girlfriend, Sakari Harnden, have been arrested and charged in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a missing woman in Nevada. The victim, Marayna Rodgers, was reported missing on December 7, two days after she was last seen with friends and had arranged to meet with Harnden and Comanche. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced on Sunday that Comanche and Harnden were arrested last week and initially charged with kidnapping. However, after Rodgers' remains were discovered in a desert near Las Vegas, the couple is now facing murder charges.

The investigation into Rodgers' disappearance quickly raised suspicions of foul play, leading to the arrests of Harnden and Comanche. Following their apprehension, investigators received information that led them to the discovery of Rodgers' remains in a desert area of Henderson, roughly 20 miles southeast of Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that both Harnden and Comanche were responsible for Rodgers' murder.

While Harnden has been charged with murder, theft, and kidnapping, court records do not indicate a murder charge against Comanche. However, the police stated that both suspects' charges would be amended to include murder in coordination with the Clark County District Attorney's office. Comanche was arrested in Sacramento, California, by FBI personnel and is currently awaiting extradition to Nevada. Harnden, on the other hand, appeared in court on Thursday and Sunday, with her bond set at $500,000.

Comanche, a 27-year-old center who went undrafted out of the University of Arizona, previously played in the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2022-2023 season. He made a single appearance in the league but has primarily been active in the NBA G League. Comanche played for the Stockton Kings, the G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, before being released by the team on Friday following his arrest.

The NBA and the Stockton Kings have not yet provided a comment on the situation. At present, it remains unclear whether Comanche has retained legal representation. Harnden is being represented by the Clark County Public Defender. The motive behind the alleged murder plot has not been disclosed by the authorities. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected as the case progresses.
