NFL Denies Eagles' Appeal, Enforces Fine and Sideline Ban

07:13 23.12.2023

The NFL has upheld its punishment for Philadelphia Eagles security chief Dom DiSandro's sideline altercation with San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw. DiSandro and Greenlaw were both ejected from a Week 13 game, and DiSandro's appeal of a $100,000 fine and a ban from the sideline for the rest of the regular season was denied, sources have revealed.

According to sources, the Eagles have already paid the fine imposed on them, as reported by The Associated Press. Despite the ban from the sideline, DiSandro, also known as "Big Dom," will still be allowed to travel with the team and carry out other work-related duties. However, the good news for DiSandro is that he will be permitted on the sidelines for playoff games, as the Eagles have already secured a postseason spot.

The incident that led to the altercation occurred when DiSandro pulled Greenlaw off Eagles star receiver DeVonta Smith and shouted at him after a reception in the third quarter of the Eagles' 42-19 loss to the 49ers on December 3rd. Greenlaw, penalized for unnecessary roughness on the play, retaliated by reaching his hand in DiSandro's face while reaching over two officials.

The NFL saw fit to fine Greenlaw $10,927 for his unnecessary roughness penalty. As for DiSandro, he was ordered to leave the field and received a rousing ovation from Eagles fans as he walked to the locker room. In response to the incident, the league sent a memo to all teams emphasizing a policy that prohibits non-player personnel from making physical contact, taunting, or directing insults towards opposing players or officials. The memo also stressed that only game officials or coaches should intervene in altercations.

The appeal process for DiSandro's punishment involved a meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. DiSandro has been with the Eagles since 1999 and also serves as a senior advisor to general manager Howie Roseman. In this role, he oversees all safety and security matters for players, coaches, and executives. Additionally, he is in charge of security measures related to team travel and logistics and provides education on the NFL's personal conduct policy.

In conclusion, the NFL has not relented in its punishment of Dom DiSandro, upholding the $100,000 fine and banning from the sideline for the remainder of the regular season. The Eagles have paid the fine, and DiSandro will still be allowed to travel with the team and fulfill his other duties. However, he will be permitted on the sidelines for playoff games. The incident with Greenlaw highlighted the league's policy against non-player personnel engaging in physical contact or taunting opposing players or officials.
