Marjorie Taylor Greene was targeted with a swatting attempt at her Georgia residence on Christmas morning, marking the latest instance of someone calling in a fake emergency to draw armed officers or SWAT teams to her home. The Rome Police Department quickly verified that the call was a hoax and didn't send officers to the house. This incident comes after Greene revealed that she had been the target of roughly eight swatting attempts in the past. Previous calls had claimed that dead bodies had been found in her home, and police had also responded to false reports of shootings outside her residence. However, the department has since formed a close working relationship with Greene's security detail, which enables officers to better assess the threat level.

In this latest incident, a man in New York called the Georgia suicide hotline, claiming he had shot his girlfriend at Greene's home and was planning to kill himself next. The call was transferred to police when hotline responders recognized the congresswoman's address. The Rome Police Department contacted Greene's private security detail to confirm her safety and determined that there was no emergency at her residence. The police response was then canceled en route. The authorities are now working to identify the caller and build a case against him.

Swatting is a harassment tactic that involves reporting a false emergency to law enforcement to dispatch officers to a victim's address. Many conservatives, including Greene, have fallen victim to this type of harassment. Republican Rep. Brandon Williams also revealed that he was targeted with a swatting attempt on Christmas Day. The Cayuga County Sheriff's office received a false report of a shooting at Williams' home in central New York and sent officers to confirm that there was no present danger. Williams expressed his gratitude to law enforcement for their prompt response and even left with homemade cookies and spiced nuts.

Greene took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share her frustration about the incident. She expressed her gratitude towards the local police for their support and condemned the swatting attempts. Additionally, she revealed that she had received threats from a man wanting to fight her just a week prior. She reported the threats to Capitol Police, but the man has yet to be arrested. Greene criticized the response from Capitol Police and expressed her determination to continue fighting for what is right.

In response to these incidents, Greene teased that she intends to introduce legislation to crack down on swatting. She has been an ardent supporter of former President Donald Trump and has even mused about being his running mate in the 2024 election cycle.
