Two Men Charged with Murder in Deadly Kansas City Parade Shooting

22:40 24.02.2024

A GoFundMe account created to help Lyndell Mays through 'this tragic time' and pay for his medical bills has been taken down after attracting just $100. Mays, 23, of Raytown, Missouri, was one of two men charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and other offenses in connection with the shooting that occurred during the Kansas City Super Bowl victory parade. The incident left one woman dead and more than 20 other people injured.

The fundraiser was set up by Mays' mother, Teneal Burnside, before charges were filed against him. The family later decided to take down the page out of fear of retribution. According to court documents, Mays was drawn into an argument with a group of people during the parade and allegedly pulled out a handgun, pointing it at one of the individuals and firing shots. Mays claimed he felt threatened when someone from the other group said they were going to get him.

Dominic Miller, the other man charged in connection with the shooting, was also hospitalized after being shot during the incident. Prosecutors say it was a bullet from Miller's gun that killed Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old DJ and mother of two children. Both Mays and Miller are being held on a $1 million bond and are facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder.

Missouri prosecutors announced the charges against the two men on Tuesday, stating that they were the most serious charges to emerge from the incident so far. The shooting occurred after a verbal dispute among several people escalated, leading to gunfire. Authorities say more charges are expected to be filed as the investigation progresses. The suspects did not know each other prior to the incident, according to officials.
