18-wheeler crashes into Texas DPS office, multiple serious injuries reported

14:33 12.04.2024

A suspect is in custody after a commercial vehicle crashed into a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) office in Brenham, Texas, about 75 miles west of Houston, leaving several people seriously injured. The incident, which occurred on Friday, prompted the DPS to issue a statement on social media warning of multiple serious injuries and advising the public to avoid the area to allow for medical personnel to respond.

Details surrounding the crash remain unclear, with reports indicating that a stolen tractor-trailer intentionally rammed into the DPS office. Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough suggested that the suspect had been denied a commercial driver's license the day before and returned with the intent to cause harm. Three individuals were taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in stable condition, having sustained minor injuries from debris caused by the crash.

Aerial footage from the scene shows the large semitruck aimed at the building, partially backed out into the street, with severe damage to the entrance of the DPS office. The driver of the truck was hospitalized before being turned over to law enforcement, who confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the incident. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with authorities scheduled to provide updates at a news conference later in the day.
