A tragic incident occurred at the Swan Boat Club in Newport, Michigan on Saturday afternoon when an intoxicated driver crashed into a building where a child's birthday party was being held. The crash resulted in the death of two young siblings, an 8-year-old girl, and her 5-year-old brother. Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough confirmed that the driver, a 66-year-old woman, crashed her vehicle 25 feet inside the building, where the party was taking place, causing chaos and high levels of emotions among the attendees.

In addition to the two children who lost their lives, at least 13 other people were injured in the crash, with nine of them sustaining serious, life-threatening injuries. The injured individuals, including three children and six adults, were rushed to hospitals by ambulance or medical helicopter. The sheriff described the scene as extremely chaotic and emotional for both the victims and witnesses.

The driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing death. Goodnough mentioned that additional criminal charges are likely to be brought against her as the investigation progresses. Authorities are looking into whether the driver had been at a nearby bar and grill before the crash and have executed a search warrant for more information.

The Swan Boat Club, which is located about 30 miles south of Detroit on Lake Erie, released a statement on Facebook announcing that the venue will be closed through the weekend.
