Universal Studios tram crash injures 15

08:27 21.04.2024

More than a dozen people were injured during a crash involving a tram at Universal Studios Hollywood on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. at 3900 Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene, where between 14 and 15 individuals sustained injuries, all of which were deemed non-life-threatening. Authorities suspect that a mechanical failure may have been the cause of the crash.

A statement from Universal Studios Hollywood officials confirmed the tram incident and stated that they are working to support the guests involved and understand the circumstances surrounding the accident. Aerial footage from the scene showed paramedics treating individuals, with at least one person being taken away on a stretcher. Another group of guests was led away from the tram and loaded onto a bus.

The driver of the tram reported that a mechanical failure caused one of the cars to collide with a rail, resulting in passengers falling out of the tram. Fifteen people were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The theme park did not provide further details on the incident.

The "World-Famous Studio Tour" at Universal Studios Hollywood is a popular attraction that takes visitors on a tram tour of iconic film sets. The tour includes thrilling experiences such as a flash flood simulation, an earthquake simulation, and a high-speed car chase featuring the Fast & Furious movie franchise. The park's tram can hold over a hundred people, and it remains unclear how many individuals were on board during the accident. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
