Miranda Lambert confronts concert-goers for taking selfies

15:00 20.07.2023

Country singer Miranda Lambert made headlines during her recent Las Vegas concert when she called out a group of fans for taking selfies instead of fully engaging in the live music experience. Lambert paused in the middle of singing her song Tin Man to address the issue, stating, "These girls are worried about their selfie and not listening to the song. It's pissing me off a little bit." The crowd cheered as Lambert proceeded to start the song again. A video of the incident, taken by another concertgoer, has since gone viral on TikTok, garnering 2.4 million views.

Following the incident, one of the women Lambert called out, Adela Calin, came forward to share her side of the story. Calin, a Las Vegas-based influencer with over 17,000 followers on Instagram, posted several photos from the concert, claiming to be the person Lambert was speaking to. She stated in a caption, "These are the 2 pictures we were talking when Miranda Lambert stopped her concert and told us to sit down and not take selfies." The images showed Calin with five other women, with Lambert visible in the background on stage.

While some attendees applauded Lambert's stance against excessive phone usage at concerts, others felt she overstepped by singling out an individual. Some concertgoers even left the show in protest. The incident has sparked a divided response on the internet, with social media users offering their opinions on the matter. Some defended Lambert, emphasizing the importance of giving artists undivided attention during live performances, while others criticized her for berating fans who had paid to be there.

It's worth noting that excessive phone usage at concerts has been a recurring issue in the music industry. Lambert's incident follows recent incidents where artists, such as Drake and Miranda Lambert herself, were targeted by fans throwing phones on stage. Lambert suffered an apparent black eye and laceration as a result, and the perpetrator was arrested and charged with assault.

Miranda Lambert's Las Vegas concert was part of her Velvet Rodeo residency. Despite the mixed reactions to her call-out, Lambert will continue her performances in Vegas, with her next show scheduled for Wednesday. A representative for Lambert stated that the singer had no further comment on the incident.
