Doomsday Mom Lori Vallow's Smirk Reveals Sentencing Outcome

16:15 02.08.2023

Lori Vallow Daybell, the Idaho mother accused of murdering her two youngest children and her husband's previous wife, appeared in court on Monday for her highly anticipated sentencing. The courtroom was filled with tension as family members of the victims delivered powerful and emotional statements, urging the judge to impose the harshest punishment possible.

Dressed in an orange-and-white jail jumpsuit, Vallow sat slouched in her seat, flanked by her defense lawyers. Samantha Gwilliam, the sister of Tammy Daybell, who was killed shortly before Vallow married her husband, took the stand and addressed Vallow directly. Gwilliam called Vallow a "liar, adulteress, and murderer," emphasizing her disdain for Vallow's apocalyptic religious beliefs. She concluded her statement by saying, "No angels are coming to rescue you."

Vallow's conviction in May on all charges related to the deaths of her two children, 7-year-old Joshua JJ Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, was a turning point in the trial. Jurors also found her guilty of conspiring with her husband, Chad Daybell, to murder Tammy Daybell. The prosecution argued that the couple's extremist religious beliefs and a desire for money to start a new life in Hawaii drove them to commit these heinous crimes.

Throughout the trial, the court heard harrowing evidence that shed light on the gruesome nature of the killings. JJ's lifeless body was discovered with a plastic bag duct-taped over his head in Daybell's pet cemetery. A DNA expert testified that a piece of Vallow's hair was found on the duct tape used to wrap JJ's body. Tylee's remains were found dismembered and burned in a fire pit near her brother, making it challenging to determine the cause of her death. Prosecutors also revealed that Tammy Daybell was asphyxiated in her Idaho home about a month after the children were killed.

During the sentencing hearing, Vallow appeared seemingly unaffected by the emotional statements. She often looked away, spoke to her lawyers, and even smiled, causing further distress to the victims' families who were present in the courtroom. Vallow's defense lawyers hinted that she may choose to speak in her own defense.

While this sentencing marks the end of the trial, Vallow still faces separate trials in Arizona for the murder of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, and for conspiring to kill her niece's former husband, Brandon Boudreau. Chad Daybell's trial is scheduled to begin next June, where he will face similar charges and the possibility of the death penalty.

The case gained national attention when the children were reported missing in 2019, triggering a widespread search. Eventually, their bodies were discovered buried on Daybell's property in Idaho. The trial provided insight into Vallow and Daybell's extremist religious beliefs, including Vallow's belief that she was a goddess sent to bring about the apocalypse and that her children had turned into "zombies." Witnesses testified to the couple's involvement in religious groups and their belief in multiple past lives together.

As Vallow Daybell's sentencing unfolds, it is expected to be a significant event, with family members of the victims delivering impactful statements and the judge ultimately deciding her fate. The trial itself was a surreal and emotional experience for all involved, filled with disturbing evidence and testimony about the murders and the defendants' religious beliefs. As the public closely watches the sentencing, they hope justice will be served in this tragic case that has gripped the nation.
