Tragic Death of 3-Year-Old Migrant on Texas-to-Chicago Bus

06:11 13.08.2023

A three-year-old migrant girl tragically lost her life while on a bus carrying asylum seekers from Texas to Chicago. The incident occurred in Marion County, Southern Illinois, where the girl passed away at a local hospital. The bus was part of Texas Governor Greg Abbott's controversial "border bus mission," which aimed to transport migrants from Texas to Democratic-run cities in other states. The journey had begun in the border town of Brownsville, Texas.

According to the Texas Division of Emergency Management, the bus made an emergency stop when the young girl started experiencing health concerns. Security personnel immediately called 911, seeking immediate medical attention for the child. Paramedics arrived promptly and administered treatment before rushing her to the hospital. Tragically, despite their efforts, the girl could not be saved. The exact cause of her death has not been disclosed.

In response to the incident, authorities from the Illinois Department of Public Health are now collaborating with local health officials, state police, and federal authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. This joint effort aims to determine the circumstances that led to the girl's untimely demise and shed light on any possible negligence or factors contributing to her deteriorating health.

Criticism has been directed towards the "border bus mission" program, with opponents accusing GOP leaders of exploiting migrants for political gain. Similar transportation initiatives have been implemented by other Republican governors, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who have sent buses to Democratic-run cities. The death of the migrant child has further fueled the debate surrounding these programs, raising concerns about the welfare and safety of the individuals being transported.

Representative Joaquin Castro, who was briefed on the incident, revealed that the young girl had displayed symptoms of illness, including a fever and diarrhea, prior to losing consciousness. Although the Texas Department of Emergency Management confirmed the child's death, they have not released additional details surrounding the case.

Since its inception in April 2022, Texas has transported over 30,000 migrants out of the state, with more than 4,600 individuals being sent to Chicago alone. The tragic event has prompted Representative Castro and Representative Jes??s Garc?a of Illinois to issue a joint statement, calling on the federal government to intervene and halt the busing program.

In light of the incident, the Illinois State Police are currently leading the investigation into the child's death, striving to uncover the truth and provide answers to the grieving family and concerned public. The case has raised significant questions about the overall safety and well-being of migrants being transported as part of these controversial programs.
