Chicago police 'almost completely dispelled' shooting at White Sox game came from outside stadium

02:50 30.08.2023

An investigation into a shooting that occurred during the White Sox-Athletics game at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago has taken an unexpected twist. Two women were struck by gunfire, but the manner in which the gun made its way into the stadium is almost unbelievable. According to sources close to the investigation, the gun was hidden in the rolls of a woman's belly fat. The woman, who later became one of the two injured victims, passed through metal detectors three times without the gun being detected. Security performed subsequent checks but failed to locate the concealed weapon. The wounded women, aged 42 and 26, were expected to recover from their injuries.

Initially, a report by Chicago-based outlet Sports Mockery shed light on this shocking revelation. However, a report by WGN in Chicago contradicted the Sports Mockery story. White Sox security sources, upon reviewing security footage, stated that neither of the injured women set off the metal detectors upon entering the stadium. The attorney for the 42-year-old woman also denied his client's involvement, stating that she did not bring a firearm into the ballpark and had nothing to do with the discharge of the firearm.

Authorities have been tight-lipped about the origin of the bullets and whether someone brought a gun into the stadium. Chicago Police Department's interim superintendent, Fred Waller, mentioned that the possibility of the shots coming from outside the ballpark has been largely ruled out, dispelling rumors surrounding the incident. However, investigations are ongoing, and every possible avenue is being explored.

Waller also revealed that police initially requested the game be halted after the shooting was discovered. However, the White Sox defended their decision to continue the game, stating that they immediately responded to the incident, coordinated with the police, and ensured the safety of all attendees and staff. The team announced that a scheduled concert after the game was canceled due to "technical issues."

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson was made aware of the shooting, but it is unclear whether he was involved in the decision to continue the game. He expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation and assured that more information would be reported as it becomes available.

Videos posted on social media platforms showed moments of panic as stadium-goers ran for safety, while others eagerly awaited a Vanilla Ice concert, which was subsequently canceled due to the incident and technical difficulties, according to a message displayed on the scoreboard.

The manner in which the gun entered the stadium remains unclear. The park's rules strictly prohibit any type of weapon, including firearms, from being brought into the premises. The MLB.com box score indicated that 21,906 people were in attendance that night, further highlighting the need for stringent security measures.

The White Sox released a statement expressing their concern for the victims and their hopes for a speedy recovery. Meanwhile, the investigation continues, led by Area One detectives from the Chicago Police Department. The incident involved no altercation, according to White Sox security.
