Colorado student charged with murder had threatened victim beforehand

A tragic incident unfolded at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs campus last week, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The court document unsealed on Friday revealed that the killings of Samuel Knopp, 24, and Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, were preceded by conflicts between roommates. Nicholas Trevon Jordan, 25, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the incident.

The affidavit detailed a dispute that occurred in January between Knopp and Jordan over taking out the trash, which escalated to a death threat from Jordan. Despite multiple complaints about Jordan's behavior, including smoking in the dorm and creating unsafe living conditions, university officials did not take action to remove him from the room.

Jordan, a junior studying accounting, filed a request to withdraw from the university just hours before the fatal shootings. Surveillance video captured someone entering and leaving the dorm building around the time of the incident, with the entry matching the use of Jordan's key card.

Jordan was arrested in Colorado Springs and is being held on $5 million bond. His lawyer, Nick Rogers, objected to the release of the arrest affidavit, stating that his client would continue to be "prosecuted in the media." Additionally, it was revealed that Jordan had a fully loaded AK-47 in his possession.

Samuel Knopp was a senior studying music and was scheduled to perform a senior recital in March. Celie Rain Montgomery had attended Pueblo Community College to study culinary arts. The tragic incident has left the campus community in shock, with University Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet expressing condolences for the loss of Knopp, a talented musician.

The case is scheduled for a status hearing on March 15, with a preliminary hearing set for March 27 in El Paso County District Court. The investigation into the incident continues as the community mourns the loss of two promising individuals.
