In a recent development, Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager who shot and killed two people during a Black Lives Matter riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin, is now facing a lawsuit from the estate of one of the men he fatally shot. The estate of Joseph Rosenbaum has filed a lawsuit against Rittenhouse, as well as Kenosha officials, local sheriff's departments, the City of Kenosha, the City of West Allis, and several counties. The lawsuit seeks both compensatory and punitive damages for the "wrongful death" of Rosenbaum.

According to a report in Texas Scorecard, Rittenhouse expressed his frustration, stating, "These lawsuits are making it harder and harder for me to move on with my life. No one should have to continue to defend the fact that they acted in self-defense." Rittenhouse claims that he shot Rosenbaum in self-defense during the riot, testifying in court that Rosenbaum had threatened to kill him and had tried to grab his gun.

It is important to note that Rittenhouse was put on trial for the deaths of Rosenbaum and another man during the riot and was found not guilty in 2021. However, the lawsuits surrounding the incident have continued to plague him, impeding his ability to move forward.

Joseph Rosenbaum, the man who was killed by Rittenhouse, had a troubled past. The Washington Post reported that just hours before the fatal encounter in Kenosha, Rosenbaum had been released from a local hospital after a suicide attempt. Moreover, Rosenbaum had pending charges in Wisconsin for alleged domestic abuse and jumping bail at the time of his death. In fact, in December 2002, a court in Pima County, Arizona, had sentenced him to a decade in prison on child molestation charges. State records indicate that Rosenbaum had spent just over 14 years in prison and had committed dozens of disciplinary infractions.

The lawsuit, which was filed in a federal district court in the Eastern District of Wisconsin, alleges that Rosenbaum's death was wrongful and caused significant emotional distress and harm to his survivors, including the loss of society and companionship with him. It is yet another legal battle that Rittenhouse must face.

This is not the only lawsuit Rittenhouse is facing. Gaige Grosskreutz, another individual who was shot by Rittenhouse during the Kenosha riots, has also filed a lawsuit against him, as well as Wisconsin police and officials.

Since the killings in Kenosha, Rittenhouse has become a notable figure on the US right, garnering support from right-wing groups and individuals. He has been feted at events by right-wingers, appeared on conservative media platforms, and has been lauded by gun rights activists.

As the legal battles continue, Rittenhouse finds himself caught in the crosshairs of public scrutiny and ongoing litigation. The outcome of these lawsuits will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for all parties involved.
