Manhunt launched for 'extremely dangerous' escaped murderer in Pennsylvania

16:38 31.08.2023

A 5-foot-tall convicted murderer, Danelo Cavalcante, managed to escape from the Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania, just one week after receiving a life sentence for the brutal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend. The incident has put the region on high alert, as authorities warned residents within a six-mile radius of the prison that Cavalcante is considered extremely dangerous and urged the public to assist in his capture.

Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan issued a statement emphasizing the urgency of locating Cavalcante, stating, "Law enforcement is doing everything now to locate him." The escape took place under mysterious circumstances, as it remains unclear how Cavalcante managed to flee the heavily guarded facility. However, the news that this fugitive is now at large has sent shockwaves through the community.

Cavalcante, a Brazilian national who speaks Spanish and Portuguese, was handed a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the April 2021 murder of his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandao. The brutal attack occurred just outside her home near Philadelphia, witnessed by her two young children, aged 7 and 3. Cavalcante had repeatedly stabbed Brandao more than a dozen times, ending her life in a horrific act of violence.

To make matters even more alarming, the district attorney revealed that Cavalcante is also wanted in connection with a murder in Brazil back in 2017. The prospect of an international fugitive with a history of violence roaming the area has further fueled concerns among authorities and the public alike.

As law enforcement agencies mobilize to track down Cavalcante, residents in the vicinity of the prison have been urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings or suspicious activity immediately. Authorities have described Cavalcante as being 5 feet tall, weighing approximately 120 pounds, and having a light complexion. He is known for his shaggy, curly black hair and brown eyes. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a white T-shirt, gray shorts, and white sneakers.

The fugitive was last seen walking along Wawaset Road, a route that leads to the prison, at 9:40 a.m. Since then, efforts to locate him have intensified, with local, state, and federal agencies joining forces. The U.S. Marshal Service, Pennsylvania State Police, and Chester County law enforcement are all involved in the manhunt.

During a press conference, District Attorney Deb Ryan urged the public to exercise caution and avoid any direct contact with Cavalcante. "If you see this individual, do not approach him," she warned. Instead, she urged people to immediately contact the authorities by dialing 911.

In response to the escape, prison officials, including Warden Howard Holland, assured the community that they are thoroughly investigating the incident and are committed to following proper protocols. However, they have not released any specific details regarding the escape at this time.

As the search for Cavalcante intensifies, law enforcement officials are in the process of setting up a dedicated tip line to encourage community members to come forward with any information that may lead to his capture. The urgency of the situation cannot be overstated, as the community anxiously awaits news of the fugitive's apprehension, and residents hope for a swift return to safety and peace of mind.
