Colorado shocks No. 17 TCU in Deion Sanders' coaching debut

03:27 03.09.2023

In a stunning upset, the Colorado Buffaloes defeated the 17th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs by a score of 45-42 in a thrilling game that showcased the talent and coaching abilities of Deion Sanders. Sanders, who was hired in December to turn around a struggling Colorado program, completely transformed the roster, bringing in 68 new scholarship players for the 2023 season. Despite facing criticism for his methods, Sanders proved that his approach was effective as the Buffaloes secured their first Power Five victory under his leadership.

The game itself was a back-and-forth affair, with a total of 56 points scored in the second half alone. However, it was Colorado who got the last laugh, stopping TCU late in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Sanders, filled with gratitude, expressed his thanks to a higher power, saying, "Thank you, Jesus. I'm so thankful right now."

The Colorado defense, although surrendering 541 yards of total offense, came through when it mattered most, stopping TCU on fourth down in their own territory with the Buffaloes up by three points. Sanders praised the defense for their resilience, saying, "They surrendered some big plays throughout the game, and all we kept teaching was, 'One stop. One stop.'"

Two standout performances for Colorado came from Shedeur Sanders, Deion's son, and Travis Hunter, the no. 1 recruit in the 2022 class. Shedeur completed an impressive 38 of 47 passes for 510 yards and four touchdowns. Hunter, who plays on both offense and defense, had a stellar game with 11 catches for 119 yards and an interception. Sanders commended Hunter's efforts, jokingly saying, "I don't know how many snaps he played, but we're going to put a hot tub on the plane for him to make sure he's straight."

Running back Dylan Edwards also played a crucial role in the victory, contributing five receptions for 135 yards and three touchdowns, in addition to a rushing touchdown. Edwards' game-winning catch-and-run for a 46-yard touchdown with just over four minutes left in the game sealed the Buffaloes' victory.

Looking ahead, Sanders and the Buffaloes will face the Nebraska Cornhuskers in their home debut at Folsom Field. Speaking to the Colorado fanbase, Sanders confidently declared, "We told you we coming. You thought we was joking. And guess what? We keep receipts."

This win marks a significant milestone for both Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes, as they continue their journey to resurrect the program and establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in college football.
