Raiders' Chandler Jones rips team in since-deleted social media tirade over access to team gym

08:11 09.09.2023

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones is facing the possibility of missing Sunday's game following a social media tirade against the team. The 33-year-old, who is entering his second season with the Raiders, took to Instagram to express his frustrations regarding his lack of access to the team's gym. In a series of since-deleted posts, Jones shared a screenshot of a message he allegedly sent to head coach Josh McDaniels, in which he complained about his restricted gym privileges.

Jones, a highly accomplished athlete with 112 career sacks in the NFL, expressed his disappointment at having to work out at a local gym during the season. "It's a shame that I am a top athlete??¦and I have to go to a local gym to work out during the season for no apparent reason," he stated in the message. He called on McDaniels to rectify the situation, emphasizing that he expected the team to do "what's right."

The frustration continued as Jones also shared a message suggesting his inability to reach general manager Dave Ziegler. In the same screenshot, he claimed that he "can't even get my GM on the phone," implying a lack of communication and support from the organization. The situation escalated further with Jones declaring that he did not wish to play for the Raiders anymore if McDaniels and Ziegler remained in their positions.

These controversial posts quickly circulated on social media, drawing attention and speculation from fans and media alike. The outburst occurred just one day after Jones had expressed his excitement for the upcoming season on another platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), stating that he was feeling great in practice and eagerly anticipated playing this year. This sudden change in tone and attitude surprised many observers.

Chandler Jones, a two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler, has had an impressive career spanning 12 seasons in the NFL. He was initially drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft and played a crucial role in winning his first Super Bowl by his third season with the team. In 2015, Jones was traded to the Arizona Cardinals, where he spent seven seasons before signing with the Las Vegas Raiders in March 2022.

As the Raiders prepare to open their season against the Denver Broncos, the absence of Jones would undoubtedly be a significant blow to their defense. The team will have to find a way to address and resolve the issues raised by Jones to ensure a smooth and harmonious atmosphere within the organization.
