Criticism follows 'The View' hosts' call to resettle NYC migrants elsewhere

18:28 09.09.2023

In a recent episode of "The View," the co-hosts sparked controversy and faced swift backlash on social media after suggesting that the tide of migrants coming into New York City should be redistributed across the United States. The discussion took place amidst New York City Mayor Eric Adams' ominous prediction for the fate of the city, stating that the influx of over 110,000 migrants since last year would ultimately lead to the destruction of New York City.

During a town hall meeting on the Upper West Side, Mayor Adams expressed his concerns, saying, "Let me tell you something, New Yorkers. Never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to. I don't see an ending to this. This issue will destroy New York City. Destroy New York City." He further revealed that the city was receiving approximately 10,000 migrants a month, adding to the already overwhelming challenges faced by the region.

The co-hosts of The View not only discussed the situation in New York City but also acknowledged the larger issue of migrants flooding into America from the southern border. Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin compared it to the ongoing challenges faced by border states for decades. She emphasized that this was not just a federal or American problem but a global issue, calling for collaborative efforts to find a solution. She even suggested humorous possibilities of sending busloads of migrants to the houses of politicians like Kamala Harris or Martha's Vineyard.

Co-host Ana Navarro echoed Griffin's sentiments, emphasizing the need for unity and genuine efforts rather than performative actions. She acknowledged that the federal government had prioritized asylum seekers but also highlighted the logistical challenges of mass immigration, pointing out that it puts tremendous stress on cities. Navarro controversially stated, "They need to be resettled elsewhere," drawing immediate criticism.

Co-host Sara Haines agreed, stating, "They need to spread out. This is a massive country!" Joy Behar further contributed to the discussion, warning that the issue would only worsen with global warming and climate change, as people would be forced to flee certain parts of the world.

However, their comments were met with strong backlash on social media. Commentators criticized the co-hosts as hypocritical elites, accusing them of wanting to address the issue as long as it did not affect them personally. The backlash was fueled by tweets shared by individuals such as Doug Powers, Noam Blum, Ryan James Girdusky, and Brittany Hughes, highlighting the perceived contradictions in the co-hosts' statements.

Overall, the discussion on The View regarding the redistribution of migrants across the United States sparked a heated debate and drew significant attention on social media platforms. As the issue of mass immigration continues to be a prominent topic, it remains to be seen how the conversation will further evolve and what actions will be taken to address the challenges faced by New York City and the entire country.
