Former New York City Buildings Commissioner Eric Ulrich surrendered to the Manhattan district attorney on Wednesday morning, holding a copy of Bill O'Reilly's “Killing Jesus” in his hand. Ulrich is expected to face charges related to bribery and organized crime as part of a wide-ranging corruption probe led by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. The investigation has also implicated a top donor to New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Ulrich, 38, resigned from the Adams administration in November after it was revealed that he was under investigation and had turned over his cellphone as part of a criminal gambling probe. The exact charges against Ulrich are still unclear, but sources have revealed that prosecutors were looking into whether he accumulated gambling debts in card games connected to the mob, dating back to his time as a Queens city councilman.

Ulrich's surrender comes alongside several other anticipated arrests on Wednesday. One of them is Brooklyn real estate developer Mark Caller, who is likely to face charges related to offering Ulrich a discounted apartment. Caller had raised nearly $50,000 towards Adams' mayoral campaign, according to law enforcement sources. Additionally, Queens pizzeria owners and brothers Joseph and Anthony Livreri, who co-hosted a fundraiser for Adams' campaign, are also expected to be arrested.

Ulrich, who has recently been selling insurance, is a former career politician. He was appointed as the head of the Department of Buildings by Adams in May 2022. However, following the revelation of the investigation, he resigned in disgrace.

The charges against Ulrich are part of a yearlong probe conducted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office. The sealed indictment against Ulrich was brought this summer and reportedly names at least four other individuals, including Caller and the Livreri brothers.

Ulrich's defense attorney, Sam Braverman, has stated that he does not have any information regarding the specific charges and that any claims made by others are mere speculation. Braverman expects Ulrich to surrender at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse on Wednesday morning and appear before Judge Daniel Conviser at 2:15 p.m.

The charges against Ulrich do not implicate Mayor Eric Adams or his campaign, according to sources. However, it is worth noting that earlier this year, several of Adams' former campaign donors were charged in an alleged straw donor scheme to funnel illicit contributions to the mayor's campaign.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is scheduled to hold a news conference alongside New York City Department of Investigation Commissioner Jocelyn Strauber to discuss Ulrich's case. The exact details of the charges against Ulrich and the other individuals involved have not yet been made public.
