South Carolina Congressman's Wife Turns to Divorce, Citing Alleged Extramarital Affair

04:02 24.09.2023

South Carolina Congressman Jeff Duncan, who has built his political career on advocating for "traditional family values," now faces accusations of multiple extramarital affairs during his 34-year marriage. In divorce papers filed by his wife, Melody Duncan, she claims that Jeff abandoned their family to live with his mistress, who is reportedly a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. Melody alleges that Jeff admitted to the adulterous relationship with his mistress to their three sons and members of his staff.

Despite publicly portraying a healthy marriage, even as recently as last month at his annual Faith and Freedom BBQ, Duncan allegedly flaunted his affair in front of his wife. The divorce filing states that immediately after the event, he left for his paramour's home in the Washington, D.C. area, where he is believed to currently reside. According to Melody, Jeff has spread rumors about their marriage being loveless to justify his hypocritical behavior.

The identity of Jeff Duncan's alleged mistress has been revealed as Liz Williams, a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. Interestingly, there is a registered lobbying firm called Liz Williams and Co., with Delta Air Lines listed as one of their clients, according to the US House's lobbying disclosure page.

Jeff Duncan, who has served as the Representative for South Carolina's 3rd Congressional District since 2011, has positioned himself as a staunch defender of the nuclear family and traditional values. However, the divorce filing contradicts these claims, exposing a significant discrepancy between his public persona and private actions.

Neither Melody Duncan's legal representatives nor Jeff Duncan's office have responded to requests for comment on the matter. The divorce was first reported by the South Carolina Index-Journal.

In her divorce complaint, Melody Duncan seeks various forms of relief, including permanent and periodic alimony, exclusive use of their marital residence and property in Montana, and demands that Duncan take responsibility for outstanding debts and obligations. She also requests that he maintain health insurance coverage for her and their children, cover their medical expenses, and cover her attorney's costs and fees.

The allegations against Jeff Duncan come as a shock to his constituents, who have supported him based on his professed commitment to family values. As chairman of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security, Duncan holds a position of influence within the Republican Party. His re-election in 2024 may now face increased scrutiny and challenge in light of these revelations.
