In a bizarre turn of events, an attempted carjacking in Seattle's East Queen Anne neighborhood took a painful twist when a swarm of wasps attacked both Seattle police officers and the suspect after a foot chase ended in a wooded area. Newly released bodycam footage reveals the chaotic scene that unfolded on August 13, as officers and a 22-year-old male suspect disturbed a hive of wasps in a greenbelt area.

The incident began when officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a knife-wielding suspect attempting to carjack several vehicles in the East Queen Anne neighborhood around 6 p.m. Witnesses reported that the suspect would block traffic and then try to take the cars as they passed, causing significant damage to some vehicles in the process. The officers swiftly located the suspect in a tunnel on Dexter Way North beneath Aurora Avenue North, but he managed to escape and led them into the nearby wooded greenbelt area.

As the officers closed in on the suspect and brought him to the ground, they unknowingly disturbed the wasp nest. In the bodycam footage, one officer can be heard exclaiming, "Yellowjackets everywhere, dude!" while others shout that they are being stung. The wasps swarm around the officers and the suspect, repeatedly stinging them as they struggle to apprehend the suspect.

Despite the painful stings, the officers persevere and eventually manage to pull the suspect out of the brush and back to street level, where an awaiting ambulance tends to their injuries. In the video, officers can be seen offering the suspect a bottle of water, demonstrating a surprising level of compassion even amidst the chaos.

Both the injured officer and the suspect were taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was subsequently booked into a King County Jail on charges of assault, property destruction, and attempted robbery.
