Severe turbulence on JetBlue flight from Ecuador leaves 8 hospitalized

16:47 25.09.2023

Eight people have been sent to the hospital after a JetBlue flight encountered severe turbulence during its journey from Guayaquil, Ecuador to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The incident occurred on Monday, September 25, and the flight, numbered 1256, was approaching Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport when the turbulence struck. According to a JetBlue official, the turbulence was sudden and severe, causing concern among passengers and crew members.

After safely landing at the airport, medical personnel were called to the scene and seven passengers, along with one crew member, were taken to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown. JetBlue officials have stated that they will provide support to both the affected customers and crew members.

In line with standard procedure, the aircraft involved in the incident has been taken out of service for inspection. JetBlue is determined to ensure the safety of its passengers by thoroughly examining the aircraft to identify any potential issues.

This incident is the latest in a series of turbulence-related occurrences this year that have caused injuries to passengers and crew members. Almost a month ago, eleven people were sent to the hospital after a Delta flight experienced severe turbulence while approaching Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. In March, a Bombardier CL30 jet flying from New Hampshire to Virginia encountered severe turbulence, resulting in the death of one passenger. Another incident in March involved a Lufthansa flight from Texas to Germany, which was forced to make an emergency landing at Dulles International Airport in Virginia after hitting turbulence. Multiple people were hospitalized following this incident. Additionally, around 20 passengers and crew members on a Condor flight from Frankfurt to Mauritius were injured due to turbulence.

JetBlue has not provided any further information about the condition of the injured individuals, but it has assured that it will take all necessary measures to support them. The airline industry recognizes the potential risks associated with turbulence, and incidents such as these highlight the importance of passenger and crew member safety.
