Virginia Police Arrest Half-Naked Serial Sex Offender Creeping Near Kiddie Park

19:00 01.10.2023

In a shocking turn of events, a suspected serial sex offender was apprehended by authorities in Fairfax County, Virginia on Thursday evening. Felix Antonio Mejias Vigil, 35, was caught on surveillance cameras lurking around Franconia Park, a popular spot frequented by children. The Fairfax County Police Department was alerted to Vigil's presence after he matched the description of a serial sex offender who had been exposing himself in the area during the months of July and September.

As soon as the police received the report, officers from both the Franconia and Mount Vernon police districts rushed to the scene. The surveillance footage showed Vigil attempting to flee, prompting a chase by the authorities. In a bizarre and unsettling turn of events, Vigil began stripping off his clothes and discarding them in the nearby woods during his escape attempt. However, the officers swiftly caught up to him despite his efforts, and he was promptly arrested.

Vigil, a resident of Fairfax, is suspected of committing several sex offenses, including public masturbations, in and around Franconia Park. The park is well-known for housing the beloved Chessie's Big Backyard children's playground, making these crimes all the more alarming for the community.

The recent arrest of Vigil sheds light on other incidents that occurred throughout the summer. Notably, a man matching Vigil's description was observed engaging in public masturbation on Telegraph Road, which is adjacent to the VHBC Preschool. On July 28, authorities received a distressing call regarding a sex offender who was engaging in "indecent liberties" with a minor at the nearby Virginia Hills Swim Club.

This serial sex offender struck again on two separate occasions on Telegraph Road, on September 19 and 22. Additionally, on September 22, the suspect was observed masturbating in public on Diana Lane, a short road leading to the Virginia Hills School. The consistent nature and escalated acts of the suspect's crimes have caused great concern among residents and law enforcement alike.

Felix Antonio Mejias Vigil has been charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a child under 15, four counts of actual or simulated masturbation in public, and false identification to law enforcement. He is currently being held at the Adult Detention Center without the possibility of bail.

Sadly, this is not the first time that Fairfax County Police have had to confront the horrifying reality of a serial sex offender targeting public areas where children play. Last year, Juan Rodriguez Alfaro was arrested for terrorizing women and young girls in at least 21 separate incidents of assault and sexual battery along the Washington and Old Dominion Trail. It was later discovered that Alfaro was an undocumented immigrant from Honduras and was also wanted in New York for attacking a jogger.

The arrest of Felix Antonio Mejias Vigil serves as a stark reminder of the constant vigilance necessary to protect our communities, particularly vulnerable populations such as children. Law enforcement agencies continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of residents, and it is crucial that communities remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
