NYC Club Sparks Outrage with Controversial 'Fundraver' Using Hamas Attack Footage

12:17 16.10.2023

A nightclub in New York City is facing severe criticism for using images of Hamas' deadly attack on Israel to promote a party titled as an "intifada fundraver" aimed at raising funds for Palestinians. The event, held at The End club in Brooklyn on Sunday night, featured footage of Hamas terrorists bulldozing through the Gaza border fence during their horrific assault on October 7th. Although the original advertisement has been deleted from the club's Instagram page, it continues to circulate on social media platforms.

The initial ad sparked immediate backlash, with many accusing the club of endorsing the massacre of around 1,400 Israelis. Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine tweeted, "This is straight up glorification of a massacre. Reprehensible." Representative Ritchie Torres (D-Bx) also condemned the club, stating, "There is a deep rot of antisemitism in American culture that cannot be ignored and must be confronted at every turn."

Moreover, individuals expressed outrage over the event being named a fundraver given that more than 260 people were killed by Hamas terrorists at the Nova music festival in southern Israel. One Instagram user wrote, "Did you think about the 260 that were murdered at a rave? Shame on you." Another user pointed out that the issue was not about raising funds for Palestinians but rather the celebration of the idea of intifada. Intifada refers to an uprising or rebellion and has been historically associated with violent clashes between Palestinians and Israelis.

In response to the backlash, The End club defended its decision to host the party, claiming that the cause had been "twisted by politicians and social media." They stated, "We are not here to promote violence of any kind. Any display of hostility will result in removal from the venue." The club used its Instagram page to celebrate the event, saying, "Beautiful night. Thank you to everybody who came and helped make this show happen."

Near the entrance of the club, several missing person posters for Israelis who were taken hostage by Hamas were spotted by The Post. The event, which featured various DJs, aimed to raise funds for the Palestine Children's Relief Fund and Medical Aid for Palestine, as stated on the event's ticketing page. It remains unclear how many people attended the fundraising event or the amount of money raised.

Despite the nightclub's claim of not promoting violence, critics argue that their decision to use the image of Hamas' assault on Israel was in poor taste and insensitive. The controversy surrounding the event highlights the ongoing tensions and deep divisions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with debates over the appropriate ways to support the Palestinian cause without glorifying violence or engaging in anti-Semitism.
