18:28 27.10.2023

At least 18 people were killed and 13 more were injured in a pair of mass shootings in Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday evening. The shootings took place at a bowling alley and a nearby bar, and the suspect, Robert Card, is still at large. The victims ranged in age from 14 to 76 years old, and their names were released by WBZ and CBS. Among the victims were Bill Young, 44, and his 14-year-old son Aaron, who were bowling together when they were both killed. Bill was described as someone who always made people laugh and enjoyed life to the fullest. Another victim, Bob Violette, 76, was a longtime bowling instructor who was teaching kids at the bowling alley at the time of the shooting. He was known for his kindness and patience with everyone, especially children. Joseph Walker, 57, was the bar manager at Schemengees and was killed as he went after the gunman with a butcher knife. Michael Deslauriers II, 51, and his friend also charged at the shooter after ensuring the safety of their wives and children. Peyton Brewer-Ross, 40, was identified as one of the victims by his employer, Bath Iron Works. Joshua Seal, 36, was an interpreter for the deaf and was participating in a cornhole tournament for deaf athletes at the bar. Billy Brackett, 48, and Bryan MacFarlane, 41, were also participating in the cornhole tournament when they were killed. Bryan's sister described him as someone who loved riding motorcycles, camping, and spending time with his deaf friends. Other victims included Steve Vozzella, 45; Arthur Strout, 42; Ronald Morin, 55; Maxx Hathaway, 35; Thomas Conrad, 34; Jason Walker, 51; Tricia Asselin, 53; and Keith Macneir, 64.

Authorities held a press conference to release the names of the victims and provide updates on the investigation. The suspect, Robert Card, is still at large, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend him. The public has been asked to provide any information that could lead to his capture. The search for Card has extended to the Androscoggin River, where divers have been deployed to search for any evidence related to the case. A note was also found, but its contents have not been disclosed. Law enforcement officials have received over 500 tips regarding Card's whereabouts, but he remains a fugitive.

In response to the shootings, a shelter-in-place order was issued for residents of Lewiston, Lisbon, and Bowdoin. The order was lifted on Friday, allowing residents to leave their homes for the first time since the shootings occurred. However, authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

The community of Lewiston has been deeply affected by the tragedy, with residents comparing it to the events of 9/11. Schools in Lewiston will be closed on Monday to allow staff members time to process the events and be ready to provide support to students when they return. The city is coming together to support one another, with some locals gathering at places that have reopened to find solace and a sense of community.

This mass shooting is the deadliest in Maine's history, with 18 people killed and 13 injured. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are still processing the crime scenes and identifying the victims. Daily press conferences will be held to provide updates on the investigation until the suspect is found.
