Packers legend sees Jordan Love as the future successor to Aaron Rodgers

06:50 29.10.2023

In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Green Bay Packers legend Donald Driver expressed his belief that Jordan Love, the team's young starting quarterback, is the future of the franchise. Despite Love's struggles in his first full season as a starter, Driver remains optimistic and urges patience from fans.

After 18 successful seasons with the Packers, Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in the offseason. The decision to move on from Rodgers came as a surprise to many, especially considering his back-to-back MVP wins. However, the relationship between Rodgers and the organization had become strained, leading to the trade.

Jordan Love, the Packers' first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, was given the task of stepping into Rodgers' shoes as the starting quarterback. Unfortunately, Love has faced numerous challenges in his new role. The Packers currently have a 2-4 record, Love's completion percentage is the lowest in the league at 57.5%, and he has thrown seven interceptions, tying him for the third-most in the league. Additionally, Love's passer rating of 79.8 is one of the worst in the NFL, and he has yet to throw for more than 260 yards in a game.

Despite these statistics, Driver believes it is premature to give up on Love. Drawing a parallel to Rodgers' early days with the team, Driver points out that Rodgers had the advantage of stepping into an offense with a strong receiving group. In contrast, Love is starting fresh with a young team and no veteran leader in the locker room. Driver acknowledges that Love needs time to develop and grow, but he firmly believes that the young quarterback has the potential to be a future star for the Packers.

Driver also reminds fans that they have been spoiled by the success of both Favre and Rodgers, who are both future Hall of Famers. He notes that Love has the talent to become a player of their caliber, but it will take time for him to reach that level. Driver emphasizes the importance of having a talented supporting cast around Love, highlighting the impact of injuries to key players like Aaron Jones and Christian Watson on the quarterback's performance.

With the Packers currently on a three-game losing streak, Love and the team are looking to bounce back as they prepare to face their NFC North rival, the Minnesota Vikings, this Sunday. While the future may be uncertain, Driver's belief in Love's potential and the organization's willingness to give him time offers hope for the team and its fans. As Driver puts it, "It's gonna take some time, but I think at the end of the day, he's gonna be good.".
