Mayor Eric Adams Faces Sexual Assault Allegations from 1993 Colleague

23:49 23.11.2023

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is facing a major scandal after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 1993. The accusation came to light through a lawsuit seeking a minimum of $5 million in damages, filed just before the deadline for the Adult Survivors Act. The accuser, whose identity has been kept confidential by The Post, named Adams as a defendant alongside the NYPD's transit bureau and Guardian Association in the lawsuit filed on Wednesday.

According to the 3-page summons, which lacks specific details about the alleged assault, the plaintiff claims that Adams sexually assaulted her while they both worked for the City of New York. The lawsuit accuses Adams of sexual assault, battery, employment discrimination based on gender and sex, retaliation, a hostile work environment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Efforts to reach the accuser have been unsuccessful thus far, and her attorney has not responded to messages. The Post's sources have stated that there are no available records of the woman working for the NYPD. Adams, however, vehemently denies the allegations, asserting that the incident never took place. He addressed the lawsuit before one of his Thanksgiving arrangements, emphasizing that it is not representative of who he is personally or professionally.

City Hall also swiftly rejected the allegations, claiming that Mayor Adams does not know the accuser and has no recollection of ever meeting her. They emphasized that Adams would never physically harm another person and vigorously denies such claims.

The timing of the lawsuit is particularly unfavorable for Adams, who is already facing declining approval ratings and a federal investigation into his campaign's fundraising. Additionally, his proposed budget cuts have been met with widespread disapproval. Lee Miringoff, the polling director at Marist College, stated that this new development is unwelcome news for Adams, who lacks a strong support base to rely on.

Sonia Ossorio, the New York City director of the National Organization for Women, emphasized the need for a fair hearing in court but acknowledged that the case adds to the challenges facing Mayor Adams. Ossorio expressed the importance of the mayor's focus on issues that are crucial to the city.

Court records indicate that the accuser has previously filed lawsuits against the School Board of Miami, American Airlines, and a Florida casino. These cases were either dismissed or lost. The Adult Survivors Act, signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul, has allowed for the filing of numerous civil lawsuits against powerful individuals, including former President Donald Trump and Bill Cosby. Over 2,600 claims have been filed under the ASA, including recent lawsuits against Axl Rose, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Terry Richardson.

Despite never having been married, Adams has a 27-year-old son from a previous relationship. He is currently in a relationship with Tracey Collins, the senior youth development director of the NYC Department of Education, who is considered the unofficial first lady of New York City.

The allegations against Mayor Adams have sparked significant controversy and will undoubtedly impact his political career. The court will ultimately determine the validity of the accusations, but for now, the mayor finds himself in a precarious position.
