Former Executive Assistant Brittany Commisso accuses ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo of sexual assault

20:32 24.11.2023

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is facing a lawsuit for sexual assault filed by his former executive assistant, Brittany Commisso. Commisso alleges that she endured "humiliating and demeaning tasks, hugs, kisses, sexual touching of the buttocks, and forcible touching of the breast" while working for Cuomo from 2019 until August 2021. Commisso expressed her disgust at Cuomo considering a run for public office following allegations against Mayor Eric Adams, stating that he refuses to acknowledge his own sexual harassment. The disgraced governor has been accused of groping Commisso inside the Executive Mansion, leading to a misdemeanor criminal complaint. Commisso claims that Cuomo initiated a campaign of retaliation against her after she rejected his advances. Following her report of Cuomo's alleged conduct, then-Lt. Kathy Hochul demoted Commisso, resulting in a loss of overtime pay, little work, and ostracization from her co-workers. The court filing also implicates the state and Cuomo's special counsel Judith Mogul for aiding and abetting Commisso's mistreatment. Commisso's lawsuit was filed just before the deadline for the Adult Survivors Act, which suspends the statute of limitations for one year, allowing victims of abuse to bring a lawsuit regardless of the age of their claims. The criminal sexual assault case against Cuomo was dropped in 2022. Cuomo, who resigned in August 2021 amid multiple misconduct allegations, has been accused of sexually harassing or mistreating 11 women. He has denied all the allegations. In addition to the sexual harassment claims, Cuomo has also been accused of covering up the true number of nursing home deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cuomo has successfully fought for the state to cover the cost of his legal fees, with taxpayers footing $20 million for state and federal probes into him and his administration. Cuomo's lawyer, Rita Glavin, dismissed Commisso's suit as a money grab, stating that her claims are provably false. The governor's office claimed that the mention of Hochul in the allegations must have been a mistake, stating that she had no control over personnel decisions in the Executive Chamber. Attorney Judith Mogul did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
