Atlanta officer used Taser on church deacon after he said he could not breathe, police video shows

Bodycam footage has been released, revealing the details of a tragic incident involving a police officer and a deacon in Atlanta. The footage, which spans nearly an hour, shows Officer Kiran Kimbrough interacting with 62-year-old deacon Johnny Hollman after a minor car crash on August 10. The video begins with Kimbrough speaking to Hollman and the other driver involved in the collision. Hollman maintains that the other driver hit him, while the officer blames him for the crash. As the conversation escalates, the officer repeatedly demands that Hollman sign the ticket. Eventually, Hollman reluctantly agrees to sign, but a physical altercation ensues as Kimbrough tries to grab his arm. Hollman swats the officer's arm away and complains of pain in his right arm. Within seconds, Hollman is on the ground with the officer's hands pressed against his back. The officer yells at Hollman to put his arms behind his back and threatens to tase him. Despite Hollman's pleas that he can't breathe, the officer proceeds to tase him. Hollman's daughter, Arnitra Hollman, expressed her family's anger and called for the officer to be jailed and prosecuted. The family's lawyer, Mawuli Davis, accused the officer of treating Hollman disrespectfully and unjustifiably. An autopsy report declared Hollman's death a homicide, attributing his heart disease and the electrical shock from the taser as contributing factors. The incident has sparked a call for justice, with the family's lawyer referring to it as murder. The Atlanta Police Department initially stated that Hollman became agitated and uncooperative, leading to his arrest. However, the recently released footage has raised questions about the officer's actions. The video's release was delayed until after the completion of an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The case has now been handed over to the Fulton County District Attorney's office for further review. Meanwhile, relatives of Hollman are demanding that Officer Kimbrough be charged with murder.
