George Santos anticipates expulsion from Congress

15:58 26.11.2023

In a heated X Space interview with conservative media personality Monica Matthews, embattled Rep. George Santos made a bold declaration, stating that he fully expects to be expelled from Congress in the coming days. Despite the impending consequences, Santos defiantly proclaimed that he would "wear it like a badge of honor."

Santos candidly admitted that he had meticulously analyzed the situation and had repeatedly done the math, leading him to the conclusion that his prospects did not look favorable. Amusingly, he laughed while stating this, revealing a certain level of nonchalance about the imminent expulsion.

The catalyst for this anticipated expulsion was the release of a comprehensive 56-page report by the Ethics Committee earlier in the month. The report detailed the existence of "substantial evidence" that Santos had violated federal law. Allegedly, Santos had funneled significant sums of money through his campaign and businesses to cover personal expenses. These expenses included indulgences such as Botox treatments, shopping sprees at luxury stores like Hermes and Ferragamo, and even purchases on the adult content website OnlyFans. Additionally, the report highlighted expenditures on meals, parking fees, travel expenses, and rent.

Following the damning report, Rep. Michael Guest, the chairman of the Ethics Committee, took action by introducing a resolution to expel Santos from Congress. Guest, a Republican from Mississippi, asserted that the findings were more than sufficient to warrant punishment, with expulsion being the most appropriate consequence.

Unfazed by the impending resolution, Santos brazenly dared Guest to introduce the resolution as "privileged," indicating that the House would be obligated to consider the measure within two legislative days. With a hint of defiance, Santos ridiculed Guest, accusing him of attempting to bully him out of Congress. He firmly declared that he would not resign, dismissing the report as a "political opposition hit piece at best."

Santos expressed his desire to witness the setting of a precedent through his expulsion, claiming that it would establish a new era of due process. According to him, this new era would imply that individuals are considered guilty until proven innocent, allowing their accusations to be exploited to smear, dismantle, and eradicate them from society.

Avoiding direct confrontation regarding the specific allegations in the report, Santos deemed them slanderous and believed that addressing them could potentially be used against him in his pending federal case. It is important to note that Santos has pleaded not guilty to 23 federal charges.

Further escalating the tension, Santos unleashed a scathing attack on his colleagues, accusing them of adultery, voting while hungover, and freely distributing their voting cards to others. He painted a picture of the House of Representatives as a hotbed of felons and individuals with dubious backgrounds, while positioning himself as the innocent victim, comparing his plight to that of Mary Magdalene.

Rep. Robert Garcia, a Democrat from California, logged onto the X Space and directly confronted Santos, questioning why he wouldn't simply resign. Garcia urged Santos to do the right thing, emphasizing that a vote to expel him was imminent. Santos remained steadfast, reiterating his innocence and highlighting the incredulity he felt when reading the report's contents.

In this tense exchange, Santos made it clear that he was not afraid of the impending expulsion. He stated that if he were to resign, it would be an admission of guilt to the allegations outlined in the report, which he found to be filled with some of the most outlandish claims he had ever encountered.

As Santos continues to navigate this tumultuous period in his political career, the specter of expulsion looms large. Regardless of the outcome, his defiance and refusal to back down in the face of mounting pressure have made him a controversial figure in Congress.
